2012 Toyota Prius: new style and upgraded technology for the world’s best-selling hybrid car

2012 Toyota PriusWith Toyota’s hybrid range set to expand this year, thanks to the introduction of the 7 seat Prius+, Yaris Hybrid and Prius Plug-in Hybrid, it’s the perfect time to take a look at our award-winning 3rd-generation Toyota Prius, too. Here’s what’s in store for the 2012 model…

The new year brings improvements inside and out. The front of the car has been given a new look, in line with Toyota’s new design approach, which includes new clear-lens headlights and relocated LED daytime running lights. T Spirit models now use LED headlamps, too, which come with a washer system, while all versions gain new power-folding heated door mirrors. At the rear the combination lamps have a new design, and there are new wheelcaps for the 15-inch wheels on the T3 model.

Overall, the styling changes add an extra 20mm to the car’s length, but Prius’s wheelbase and its highly efficient aerodynamic performance (Cd 0.25) are unchanged. The 2012 Prius continues to deliver 89g/km CO2 emissions – the lowest level in its class – and combined cycle fuel economy of 72.4mpg (92g/km and 70.6mpg for models fitted with 17-inch wheels).

What’s more, 2012 Prius has been engineered to be more rigid, which allows for softer suspension tuning in order to improve ride comfort without diminishing the car’s dynamic abilities. This driver focused approach is reflected by improved steering feel and additional soundproofing.

In the cabin the interior improvements include new front seats, updated upholstery, revised storage and new soft-touch surfaces that combine to give a higher quality feel. Equipment levels have been raised, too, notably with the introduction of the Toyota Touch touchscreen multimedia control system on all models.

2012 Toyota Prius

The high-spec Prius T Spirit features the advanced Toyota Touch & Go Plus multimedia and navigation system as standard. This brings Bluetooth, a rear-view camera, USB port and on-board Google Local Search connectivity to the Prius (via a compatible mobile phone). What’s more, Touch & Go Plus’s premium satellite navigation system includes advanced traffic pattern intelligence on programmed routes, voice recognition for calls, music search and play, and phone contacts search and call functions. The satellite navigation is supported by three years’ free map updates, with two updates a year. Toyota Touch & Go Plus is available as an option on T3 & T4.

Alternatively, the Toyota Touch Pro is available as part of the optional Technology Pack for the T Spirit grade. This provides features including DAB digital radio, dynamic rear view camera, lane guidance, an automatic zoom at intersections and TPEG traffic flow data.

2012 Toyota Prius

Changes have also been made to the multi-information display (on all models) to make images clearer and simpler to understand. New functions have been added including a monthly fuel consumption record, with a rolling archive of five months’ data, and an ECO savings calculator. The calculator works by the driver inputting a target consumption figure and fuel price; the system records the driving time during which consumption is lower than the target and calculates a monthly saving compared to the expected fuel cost.

Toyota 5 Year WarrantyThe 2012 Prius is available in eight exterior colours, including new Dark Blue and Cabernet Red metallic. UK sales will begin in March, with on-the-road prices from £21,560, including Toyota’s 5 year warranty as standard.

  1. I have a 2012 Prius T-Spirit (with Technology Pack), in which the Satnav exhibits a highly irritating problem, especially on longer journeys.
When I get the pop-up message displaying “Traffic Information changed. Do you want to see alternative route”, and I select “Yes”, it initially correctly shows me a sensible alternative route. But after a while, with the same pop-up message, it goes into a mode where the alternative route indicated (if “Yes” is selected) is approximately 0.1 miles behind my currently indicated position! (I have managed to get photos of this!). Irrespective of what option I then select, the pop-up message re-occurs every 3 to 5 minutes, with the same useless information!
Furthermore, the pop-up messages stay on the display, obscuring ‘distance to go’, or ‘time of arrival’ information. Therefore, each time they happen, I have to reach out and press “No”.
The only way to stop this from continuously repeating, is to stop the car, switch off everything, and then re-start! Not ideal when travelling on a motorway! The only alternative is to ‘Suspend’ the Satnav guidance, which somewhat defeats the object of having a Satnav!
When I showed my local Toyota dealer my photographs of the faulty operation, I was told “Oh, my 2014 Toyota Auris does that as well!”. He went on to say that there was nothing that Toyota could do about it, which I found unhelpful, to say the least.
And, by the way, I was also told recently by my local Toyota dealer, that, because I had the Technology Pack fitted, no free Satnav updates would be provided.

    1. Hello Mervyn
      Thank you for your post.
Sorry to hear about the problem you have experienced with your satnav. We have run your query past our technical team who have confirmed that you are able to switch off the traffic avoidance in the traffic info settings. This will prevent the messages being displayed. With regard to the free updates, we can confirm that these are only applicable with Touch & Go +.
With regard to your other satnav issue, we have referred this to our technical team for their information and will advise you of the outcome.

  2. I have just bought my third Prius T Spirit and am amazed that it doesn’t have DAB radio included. I didn’t even check beforehand as I thought all decent top of the range cars had DAB these days – even my wife’s Fiesta has it.
Anyway, I asked the dealer to add it (at extra cost to me of course) and they put in a unit which requires a remote control to be stuck to the dash. No lights on it, no stalk control. The unit doesn’t work either – the dealer has ordered another remote, hoping this is why.
But SURELY there is a decent way to get DAB INTEGRATED into the system of a £25k+ car in 2014 – especially one that in most other ways is so technically advanced.
I’ve been thinking – I don’t really want a remote control stuck on my dashboard!

    1. Hi David,
      Thanks for your post.
We do offer Digital Radio as an optional extra, which forms part of the Technology Pack on the current Prius range. We have taken on board your comments and hope the replacement remote supplied by your Dealer will resolve your current issue.

    1. Hi Ashum
      Thanks for your post.
Certain grades of Prius do have the facility to electrically fold in the wing mirrors and there will be a button by the mirror adjustment switch if this is the case. It would not be possible to add this feature restrospectively though if you do not have this in your car. The only other option is to manually push the mirrors to the side of the car.
      Hope this helps.

  3. 2010 Prius

I have rear sensors on the bumper, which used to bleep when getting near to an object, whilst reversing. The audible sound has now stopped working and I don’t know if this is a setting somewhere as there is nothing in any of the manuals provided. Any ideas to the cause of this?

    1. Hi Tony
Thanks for your post regarding your Prius.
Have run your question past out technical team who have advised the sensor kit is fitted with an isolation switch which is mounted in the boot area, usually in the near side rear pocket or under the floor. This can get knocked so that it turns the system off/on. However as there is no fixed mounting place it can be located in a different area. If your have trouble locating this then we would recommend contacting your local Toyota centre who can help you find this.
      Hope this helps.

  4. Hi I have a 2009 prius Tspirit with the 10Gb storage for music. I will be getting a new model in the next 6 months how do i get my music of the hard drive to save elsewhere. Is it right that this is no longer a feature on the new models

    1. Hi Gary,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Unfortunately there is no way of transferring the music off the hard drive.
You’re correct this feature is no longer available on new models. We’re sorry we couldn’t provide a more positive answer for you, but we hope this answers your query.
      Many thanks.

    2. I found a switch in the boot that actually turns the sound on and off. Nothing in any of the manuals about this?

      1. Hello Tony.
Thanks for post and glad that you have found this. Details would not be in the manual as it is fitted as an accessory item.
        Hope this helps.

  5. I have driven 10, 000 miles in a Prius this last 4 months. A joy to drive. All public vehicles should be hybrids as soon as possible. I test drive a Prius + on tuesday . Take a test drive yourself. You wont be disappointed.

  6. I purchased a prius premium sol(top of the range)in 2010 Yesterday i was driving down to Zug in Switzerland, the satnav could not recognise the motorway i was on between Affoltern and Zug and was continually trying to divert me on to the old road, the motorway is not new so why the blazes did it not recognise it,I have had issues before with this sub standard equipment, also very annoying is when i am using the English language mode and say driving in France the spoken instructions for the place names ie Clement-Ferrond are given in French which sound vastly different to the English pronunciation. This morning i went to my Toyota dealer for a quote on an update and they tell me i am looking at 400plus swiss francs, well toyota you can get stuffed and i will certainly never buy another Toyota

    1. Hi David,
We’re sorry that you’ve been having a few problems with your Sat Nav system.
In order to address this properly we suggest you speak directly with our Customer Relations team who are best placed to deal with your query. Please contact them here: http://ow.ly/jRdM9.
      Many thanks.

  7. Have received my new Prius Spirit. As this is the first satnav I have used I have now way of judging it except that i have heard some errors. How do others find the system compared to Tomtom or Garmin ? i do not have the technology Pack / Touch Pro as only opted for the DAB radio. How does it operate re speed cameras – a verbal warning or by icons on the screen ? I am having to get used the keyless entry system and am still trying to work out the range from when it becomes effective. Is it possible to deactivate it totally ?

    1. Hi Pinky,
Our apologies for the delay in response.
Speed cameras are demonstrated through an audible warning or ‘beep’, they are also shown on the satellite navigation map. You can find more details on the keyless entry system including start range on pages 75-76 of the Owner’s Manual. This system can be switched off in the Settings/Vehicle section of the Touch Screen, the key then has to be held up to the start button when it is pressed to enable ready mode.
      We hope this helps.

  8. Just took delivery of a new t-spirit in dark blue to replace 2009 t-spirit with no other extras. So far so good but noticed that I cannot get the navigation info in the head up display and there is no switch like previous model. Very disappointed

    1. Hi Anand,
The navigation system in the current generation Prius is new to this model and no longer appears within the Head Up Display. We’re sorry to hear you have been disappointed with this, we have passed on your comments for future consideration.
We do hope you are enjoying the additional features your new Prius brings and thank you for your loyalty to the brand.
      Kind regards.

      1. This is my third prius t-spirit and the first two had incremental improvements. The only useful feature of the headup display was the navigation both for convenience and safety. The speed and hybrid indicator is only but a gimmick as the speedo is on a few inches away from the hud display. Now one has to take the eyes of the road to look down at the small navigation arrows in the central console, which is dangerous. Interestingly the sales and after sales staff at the major London dealership were unaware of this deletion. I do not lament the deletion of the intelligent parking as a standard feature on a t-spirit as this was never useful. But removal of navigation in head up display is retrograde.

        1. I have the new prius t-spirit and it as the navigation in the head up display, I have the tech
pack, so it must only come with that. Thought you might like to know.

          1. The pre 2012 t-spirit had the navigation in the HUD so miss its functionality in the new car. Do not feel that one has to spend extra in an upgraded model for such a vital safety feature that was present in the pre face lift car. Its such a subtle deletion that one only notices when one starts using the car.

  9. I would like to buy a new Prius- Spirit. In considering the options am debating whether to get and would like feedback from people who have :-
    (1) the Technology Pack. How good is the Touch Pro ?
    (2) Protection Pack
    (3 Solar Roof
The salesman is putting me off the Technology Pack and Solar Roof saying he hardly sells cars with them. I think it is because he has a car available and wants a quick sale. I mentioned my suspicions and he kind of admitted he has to meet targets before the end of this year. I need to be happy I am buying a car with the extras I want and not pushed in a direction because of a salesman’s agenda. Reading some of the comments
I am confused as to whether these additions are in fact recommended especially the Touch Pro hence would like to hear from people who have first hand experience. Many thanks

    1. Hi Pinky,
I have all three options.Proctection, very good, cheaper than getting it from you dealer after. Often if the weather is bad, you cannot see too well with the camera, so the senors are good.
I like the Solar roof as well, cools the car in the sun.
and you got the sun roof.
Now the tech pack, the Pro is rubish in my opinion, no speed cameras, no free three year oudates, you have to have disks to update it. The plus as the cameras and free updates for three years with a memory sick.
But of course with the tech pack you do have the DAB radio and adaptive curise control, which is very good.
Why you cannot have the tech pack and keep the Plus (better symtem) I do not know.
Also I am having problems with my Pro Sat nav, been back twice for repair, still waiting to get it sorted.
But that could be a one off.
Anything else you would like to know, just contact.
      Alan

      1. Thanks Alan was hoping you would reply as I have read your previous comments. I liked the idea of the pro because it has a bigger screen and as a female have difficulty with maps. Have since ascertained that can get the digital radio only @ approx £400. I hardly do motorway driving so do not need all of the Technology Pack. I am about to call Toyota to ask why they have a pack which has unrelated chalk and cheese items in it. I take on board that the Pro does not have speed cameras – does that mean for now and forever ? Re the sunroof – is it OK to have 15″ wheels as opposed to the 17″ -are there any differences in driving – what are the pros and cons or is there no difference between size of wheels. This is a big purchase so I want to get it right and your help is appreciated.

        1. Hi Again,
I have been intouch with Toyota over the speed camera issue and was told the pro will not be updated with them.
We test drove both cars with 15 and 17ins wheels, better millage and more comfort with the 15in, I assume more sporty with the 17 in, we prefered the 15in thats another reason I went for the solar roof.

          1. Thanks – have placed order for spirit/sunroof model, with protection pack and DAB radio. Am still confused about viewing emails on the screen as thought could do so with the Pro but will see what can do with the T&G Plus. Have to wait until March because of the sunroof. So will be a 2012 model with a 2013 plate. Hope Toyota wont revise the spec for at least a couple of years.
You have been very helpful in helping me make a decision.

          2. HI Pinky,
I am sure you will be pleased with the car, I am, just very disappointed with Toyota over the Pro and the way (or the way they did not) promote it.

  10. Hi have just had my new prius back to the dealer for the second time re faulty sat nav, to be told now the the free three year updates does not apply to the Pro that comes with the tech pack. The brochure I have got and dealer told me there were free updates for 3 years.
I have been intouch with Custumer relations re this and would like to warn other people who have bought the tech pack.

    1. Thanks for the information Alan, I was also of the opinion that I was entitled to free upgrades annually.

Perhaps Toyota would like to explain as to how the “Pro” gets new data of the British/European networks, or do we live in a non changing road structure! Even Tom Tom and the like have upgrades (At a cost I presume)

Must admit I am getting fed up with this so called “Pro” that can do this and that, and as far as I can see the Sat Nav part of the sytem is not as good as others, it seems to me the system has concentrated on all the other aspects such as phone and music more than what the Satnav can do. But to me, the Satnav was the most important aspect of the sysytem, I am not happy to hear this bit of news. I shall be dropping in on Toyota to hear these comments, but like the other “Bits” that initially, I get the feeling the local garage won’t be aware of this

      Thanks

      1. Hi Ernie,
Like youI am getting fed up of the Pro, the Plus seems far better and yet we pay extra for it.
My dealer thought the updates were via a memory sick, only to find out its the old DVD system where you have got to have the new dvd each time. Sounds like this pro is a big step back, not the dealers fault, they do not no any more than us, only found all this out because mine is in for repair.
See what custumer relations have to say

        1. Amy, would you be able to comment on the statement that the Touch Pro is a DVD-based system? The Toyota website states that you can “Update maps and add POI via your PC from my.toyota.eu portal, transfer using a USB flash drive”. If the toyota website is correct, it cannot be DVD based. Certainly, I have a “update” button on my navigation system.

          1. Hi Phil,
Thanks for getting in touch and please accept our apologies for a delayed reply.
The Touch Pro system is HDD (Hard Disc Drive) based, so the map and software are stored on the drive but updates are downloaded from 4 discs. Could you possibly let us know where you have seen this statement on the website and we will look into this for you, thank you.
            We hope this helps.

          2. I have just had it confirmed from customer services that there are no free up dates for the Pro, after being told by the dealer that there was free updates for three years and I can find no mention in the brochure that this does not apply to the Pro, I am very upset with Toyota, they seem to be making the rules up as they go along. This Pro sat nav is a complete con, you pay extra for the tech pack and end up less than the plus.

  11. It seems that this web-page is still displaying incorrect information about the touch system. It says “Taking in-car multimedia connectivity even further, the Toyota Touch Pro is available as part of the optional Technology Pack for the T Spirit grade. This provides even more features, including 3D representations of landmarks; lane guidance and an automatic zoom at intersections; speed limit and TPEG traffic flow data, and live parking, weather and fuel price information.”

The weather and fuel price information is an app which is only available with “Touch and Go Plus”, not with “Touch and Go Pro”.

Also, it states the Pro provides “even more features”. This is also incorrect. From what I understand, the Pro is huge step down from the Plus navigation system.

If I understand correctly, it does not include:
    – advanced navigation, including time-sensitive routing and traffic pattern database
    – speed cameras
    – free 3 years updates
    – “play more like this” music function
    – etc.

In fact, the “Touch and Go Pro” is practically the same as the Toyota Prius navigation system of 5 years ago. Will Toyota reword their write-ups, and also make it clear that “Touch & Go Plus” is the more advanced system. Toyota’s descriptions of “Touch and Go Pro” are frequently misleading and often, just, plain wrong. No wonder so many people are upset about it (including me!).

    1. Hi Phil,
I got the pro and was very disapointed with it, as you say the plus sounds a lot better
and mine is not even working correctly, it has been back to the dealer once and is going in again next week to see if they can sort it out. With mine you are always about 25 yards behind, so you miss junctions that are close together and when I get a warning about traffic problems, I cannot get rid of the warning, by pressing either yes or no to accept or decline the detour, the warning just keeps on flashing back up. I hope they can sort it out this time, anyone else got problems with the Pro?

      1. Hi there again Alan, sorry you are still getting issues with Pro. Can’t say I have noticed any problems on mine, but apart from one trip the day after I got the Prius I haven’t had to use the SatNav.

But I would like to clarify Amy’s comments, that the system has Lane Guidance, I have yet to see this work on my car (Not that I drive irratically) Is there something that needs to be set up, or does it only work when the Sat Nav is operating on a route?

I left a comment on Line Guidance on this blog on June 7 and along with Speed camera noitifcation It was made clear they weren’t available, so who is right? Over to you Amy

        1. Hi Ernie,
Thank you for letting us know.
I am currently looking into this for you and will get back to you as soon as I have further information.
          Have a good weekend.
          Kind regards.

        2. Hi Ernie,
We’d just like to apologise for the delay in getting back to you. We are working to find a response for you with teams internally and we hope to get back to you shortly.
          Apologies once again.
          Many thanks.

        3. Hi Ernie,
Apologies once again for the delay in getting back to you.
The lane guidance is a navigation feature so can only be used if a route is set. On the approach to an exit, junction or intersection, a guidance screen will appear on the right of the screen. This will show the next street name, which lane to position yourself, the distance to the turning and your current position. The automatic zoom within navigation settings will need to be turned off to operate this function.
You can find more information on this feature on page 90 of the navigation system owner’s manual. To confirm speed camera notifications are not available as previously advised.
Kind regards and thank you for your posts.

          1. Amy, many thanks for clarifying this. I tried turning off the automatic zoom and it worked as you described. Note that you may need to get the blog corrected, as it states that the touch pro “provides features including … lane guidance and an automatic zoom at intersections…” But you can never have automatic zoom at intersections and lane guidance – you can only choose one or the other. It is a pity you have to lose the automatic zoom feature to be able to see the very useful lane guidance. Do you know why it is designed that way?

          2. Hi Phil,
            Thanks again for your question.
The automatic zoom and lane guidance features cannot operate simultaneously; this is simply how the system is programmed and we’re sorry there is no way to override this feature. Thanks for your comments regarding the original blog post, we’ve now amended to hopefully make this clearer.
            Kind regards.

        4. Hi Ernie,
Can you do me a favour please and check your sat nav (still having problems with mine) when driving, the triangle on the sat nav(indicating the car) is always about 20 yards behind where you actually are. My last twop Prius sat navs, were spot on. I have now been told this is a feature of the Pro, but without seeing another, not sure if this is correct.

          1. Hi Alan.

I have the Pro set up with the automatic zoom off (to get the lane guidance). Then you get the zoomed picture on the RHS when you come to a junction or roundabout of the junction/roundabout. While I haven’t checked the normal map – it is definitely the case that it shows the car in the wrong position in the zoomed map on the RHS – as you say, it shows the car behind where it actually is. It makes it very annoying on roundabouts – if you follow the map, you always take the wrong exit. The voice navigation is fine – i.e. she says “next exit” at the right time – it’s just the map shows it as two exits away.

I have a 2007 Prius II (T Spirit with the DVD-based earlier version of the Pro) – I will check it soon but I don’t remember that having the same fault.

Are they saying that they will fix it? It’s definitely not working as it should be.

          2. Hi Ernie,
They tried to fix mine, with no success, now saying it is a feature of the Pro. We have been sold down the river with this sat nav. one problem after another with it.
I think it is dangerous, I have taken the wrong road several times. Perhaps Toyota would like to comment.

          3. Hi Alan,
Thank you for raising this with us.
We’re currently looking into your concerns with the relevant department and will get back to you once we have further information.
            Kind regards.

          4. Hi Amy,
Thank you for getting back, starting to think Toyota did not want to know about this problem.
My dealer has been first class in trying to sort this out, they could see the problem with the car being out on the Sat Nav, and like me assumed it had to be faulty, only to find it is not. Now Phil confirms his car is the same (not many new Prius about with the Pro
Sat Nav). How can you sell a system (at a premium) that is not accurate, when all your previous sat navs (is is my third now) have been fine. In my opinion it is dangerous, because you are forever looking at the screen, because you are not sure which turning to take. I am a member of Which, and will be asking them for their advise.

          5. Hi Alan,
Further to your last post we’ve now had a chance to speak with Jim Walton’s Penrith. We’ve been advised that together with the support from our Technical team, they have carried out extensive tests and indeed replaced the Touch Pro unit and aerial. They have provided us with a technical report, which concludes the system is operating to specification with no faults found. We’re sorry we are unable to help further here.
If you would like to discuss this in more detail, we suggest speaking with either Jim Walton’s or our Customer Relations team, who’ll be best placed to advise. You can find their details here: http://ow.ly/gc58p.
Thank you for raising this with us and, this issue aside, we truly hope that you’re enjoying your Prius.
            Kind regards.

          6. Hi Amy.
If the Pro is “operating to specification with no faults found.” Can you explain why Toyota went to the expense of changing the unit and the aerial for something that you now say is working OK, because it is just the same as before. Not accurate?
I have been intouch on the link you gave me.

          7. Hi Alan,
Our Technical team advised and authorised Jim Walton’s to change the entire unit to determine if the issues you described were specific to your car or characteristic of all Touch Pros. As we understand it, the replacement system operated in the same way hence the conclusions. We’re sorry we are unable to offer further advice or insight from here.
            Kind regards.

      2. Hi Alan
Haven’t noticed a problem about it showing the car in the wrong location – seems fine on mine. And haven’t had any traffic warnings yet. But have a quick question for you. Does your Pro have “a monthly fuel consumption record, with a rolling archive of five months’ data, and an ECO savings calculator” that they talk about in this blog? I don’t see anything like that in my Touch Pro – certainly, there’s no button on the fuel consumption screen to view this.

        1. Hi Phil, yes there is a 5 month fuel chart, you need to go into setting and put the date in and then when you press the disp button you will come to the month display, not sure what the ECO savings calculator is though!!there is quite a few things you can turn on and off in the settings mode.

          1. Thanks for the info, Alan. I have a prius+, and I think that must be something specific to the Prius, as I have no setting button and in the “setup” menu, there’s nothing about setting a date or anything else relating to fuel consumption.

          2. Hi Phil, Mine is the Pro and you come to the settings mode by pressing the DISP button on the stearing wheel

    2. Hi Phil,
Thank you for making us aware of this and for taking the time to feedback.
We have reviewed the blog post and corrected the features of the Toyota Touch Pro navigation system. We are very sorry for the confusion this has caused. We are also working with our Digital department, looking after our website, to ensure our communications regarding the Touch Pro are correct and consistent.
The Touch Pro is a different system to our Touch & Go range and so does come with different features, some of which are unavailable on the Touch & Go Plus. We can confirm the Touch Pro benefits from DAB digital radio, a dynamic rear view camera, lane guidance and an automatic zoom at intersections, as well as TPEG traffic flow data. This is now reflective within the blog post.
Thank you once again and we do hope you are enjoying your Prius.

      1. Hi Amy,
Like Ernie, I have not found lane guidance, and I have just come back from a 1000 mile uk trip. Mine is going back to the dealer next week to sort out the other problems, do I mention that I do not get lane guidance?

        1. Hi Alan,
Thank you for letting us know.
I am currently looking into this for you and will get back to you as soon as I have further information.
          Have a good weekend.
          Kind regards.

        2. Hi Alan,
We’d just like to apologise for the delay in getting back to you. We are working to find a response for you with teams internally and we hope to get back to you shortly.
          Apologies once again.
          Many thanks.

        3. Hi Alan,
Apologies once again for the delay in getting back to you.
Kind regards and thank you for your post.

  12. I commented on my experience of purchasing a new Prius on 20th March 2012. I got, as you can see, a sort of response about a month later.
Although I am happy with the performance of the car it still rankles that I was offered no sort of compensation for the fact that I was mislead over the vehicle I was going to be provided with. The latest blog is quite correct. I ordered, in good faith, a vehicle with the park assist and the CD Hard-drive.
In the end I accepted the vehicle because of its reputation and because I had sold my existing vehicle privately and would have been left with no vehicle.
I really feel that what should have been an exciting change still leaves me with the opinion that I have been badly treated.

    1. Hi Andy,
Our suggestion here would be, again, to contact our Customer Relations team. They will be able to investigate this for you and understand fully your purchase and options. They will then be able to give you a detailed response regarding your case. Please find their contact details here: http://ow.ly/cSek9.
      Many thanks.

  13. I first saw the 2012 prius by the change in the rear lights compared to my own 2010 TSpirit. Since buying the car in 2010 I have been very pleased with it, from fuel consumption to gadgets. I was therefore very keen to look at the 2012 version & do infact have an appointment on 18th August at the showroom.

However the more I read, the less impressed I feel about the new model. You seem to get less for your money UNLESS you go for the TSpirt with the Tech Pack option. On my TSpirit, I automatically got Intelligent Park Assist (which has been useful on many occasions) & the entertainment system included a 10gb partition to store your own music (again very useful from my point of view).

On the new version IPA is only included with the Tech Pack (option only on the TSpirit) and there is NO option for a hard drive, just a glamourous looking touch screen which seems to operate at its best ONLY if you plug an expensive contract based mobile phone in to it with bluetooth.

I paid around £24000 for my TSpirit but to upgrade to the 2012 & get IPA I would need to pay £27000 (a massive £3000 leap in 2 years). Even the “basic” TSpirit is now closer to £25000.

Is it me or are there other 2010 owners who feel the same way?

    Colin

  14. Hi, Can someone from Toyota please tell me how I can set my Sat Nav to show speed Cameras and warn me when I go over the speed limit, my dealer does not know and I do not have an instruction manual, (did not come with the car) I am waiting for them to get me one. Surely someone at Toyota must know how there Touch and go Pro (comes with tech pack on T/Spirit) works, and looking at this blog I am not alone.

    1. Hi there Alan
Like you I have spent quite a few hours now going through the manual and each menu available on the Satnav in the car, and I am now of the opinion that these (Speed Cameras, line guidence etc) are not available for the new Tech Pac on 2012 edition. I would really like a comment now from Toyota on this.

Even Tony first line of “Starting from the screen that displays the current map tap the “Options’ buttoning the bottom right of your screen.”

There is no Options button on my Satnav to tap. So you are not alone on this. If you get any news please advise on the blog.
      Rgds Ernie

      1. Hi Ernie,
Yes I will keep you updated, Toyota have gone very quiet on this, (I wonder why!!!)
There had better be speed camera information they were advertising it for the tech pack.

      2. Hi Again,
Its got to be there, I have just been on the Toyota prius web site and for the touch and go pro it says
“With 3D mapping this sat nav shows you live motorway signs also with a comprehensive database of speed and safety cameras.”
COME ON TOYOTA PLEASE SORT THIS OUT FOR US.

      3. Hi Ernie
Yes it was my bad – as I mentioned before my instructions referred to the Touch & Go Plus which is the standard fit on the 2012 Prius TSpirit. A whole different beastie to the Touch Pro if you have the Tech Pack fitted!
I’m still trawling the internet – but your system is so new there’s nothing out there. The closest I can find is the unit fitted to the USA 2012 model, but that doesn’t appear to have Speed camera and traffic info. (do they even have speed cameras in the USA?)
        Regards
        Tony

      4. Hi Ernie,
Here is the latest news on speed cameras. you are right, there is’nt any.
I have been intouch with my dealer today, who has been intouch with Toyota, and there are no speed cameras on our system, so I have been on the Toyota Prius Web site today and clicked on Touch and go Pro where it clearly states.
““With 3D mapping this sat nav shows you live motorway signs also with a comprehensive database of speed and safety cameras.”
So I have been onto Toyota customer service to make a complaint, I would do the same, there number is
        01737 367600
I will let Disha know as well.
        Keep intouch
        Alan

        1. Hi Alan
Thanks for the info it is as I suspected. I have also logged this with Toyota C/Service this afternoon. Thanks for the number
          Ernie

          1. Hi Ernie,
Would you believe, I have had a reply on the blog, from Toyota (Grant) see below.
If you can find out how you got to the screen for setting the speed limits, I would love to know, cannot find tht either, but must be there if you have seen it.

            Alan

          2. Hi Alan,

I will call and make complaint. The car is very good apart from some features not available to the optional pack.

            Thanks,
            Disha.

          3. Hi Disha,

We have replied to Alan Green and Ernie Spackman regarding the safety camera feature on Touch & Go Pro, and would like to make sure you also receive the latest information, outlined below.

We can confirm that safety camera warnings are not a feature of the Touch & Go Pro, the multimedia navigation system fitted to Prius T Spirit with Technology Pack and other high-specification Toyota models. Although this feature was not listed in the Prius brochure it was incorrectly shown on the Toyota UK website, which has subsequently been corrected.

We would like to apologise for this error and any subsequent disappointment it has caused. Touch & Go Pro offers many features not available with the
Touch & Go and Touch & Go Plus systems, but we have been advised that speed camera warnings cannot be added.

Our Customer Relations team has received your complaint and will be in contact with you to help resolve your concerns.

We hope this information regarding safety camera warnings does not diminish your overall enjoyment of your new Prius.

  15. Just picked up my Prius, lovely car, really pleased (worth the wait), A big thank you to customer service and Oliver Tiley for all their help. One question, in the manual there is a on/off button for the PCS (I have ahe tech pack).
But Ihave looked where it is supposed to be and cannot find it.

      1. HI, Yes I do, and they do not seem any different to my last Prius, also does not seen to show speed cameras

        1. Hi Alan, I too have now received my Prius, I have managed to set up the system so that speed limits are shown on the road you are driving on and if you go over a certain speed over the limit (Which you can set up as well) the speed limit changes to a red warning, but like you the displaying of speed cameras doesn’t seem to be available, not an audible warning. I have seen on the Toyota club sight warning to have these in France evn if they are switched off they are illegal. Have Toyota made a decision to not include them – I don’t know
PS just been away for the weekend cross country to Kent, the Adaptive Cruise control is brilliant! I even set Cruise control just below 40 or 50 speed limits to ensure I don’t go over, makes a driving so much easier

          1. Hi Ernie,
Thanks for getting intouch, have not found out how to set the speed limit so it shows you, that you are going too fast,
do not have any instructions with mine, just the users manual, have been intouch with dealer, they are going to get me some, is there just the one manual for navigation, dab radio and park assist? I have set the speed limits to show, how do you get the other

          2. Hello again Alan, be prepared for some late night reading! For all that you require on Dab, Nav, Park Assist the manual for it all – is 375 pages. I was a bit lucky Toyota lent me a Prius for the weekend to get used to it, but I spent more time reading the Nav manual sitting in the car then I did driving it. Must say haven’t had the nerve to try Park assist having had the car only a week, to much else to take in. Even then I’m not sure if I would have the bottle!

          3. Hi Alan
As regards how to set the warning on speed limits — I remembered a couple of days ago, you have to have a pre-2012 version Prius! I was given one to play with over a weekend, whilst continuing to wait for my car to turn up, and it was on this car that I had set the warnings, it was also on this car, that had speed cameras. So I got mixed up in which car I had set the settings. Still strange as to why the latest version doesn’t have this.

I went into Toyota this morning and told them about speed cameras etc issues etc, they looked mystified as to why it wasn’t there, and promised me an answer for next week for a valet. No contact from Toyota C/Services at all on this, but then it’s only been 4 days.

          4. Hi Ernie,
Thanks for that, I thought it could not be there, how on earth do you end up paying extra for, in their words, “The most advanced multi media system” to end up with a system not as good as the Plus?
Can you check page 47 of your navigation manual No.3
Touch screen buttons “Map configuration” it show six options, I only have three on mine single map, dual map and compass. No sign of Turn list, Arrow, or Motorway.
Is it the same on yours, its no good asking my dealer, they have not go a clue, I am the first person to have a Pro.
            Alan

          5. Hi Ernie,

Thanks for this info, could you please let us know how did you set the nav to give you warning when you are over the speed limit ? also do you have highway sign and lane guidence ?

            Thanks,
            Disha.

          6. Hi Disha
What can I say, I know I have been to the particular screen twice last week, it allows you to give a red warning on the speed limit logo, by % of (I think 5, 10, 15 etc. But I have just spent the last hour trying to find it and I can’t!!! Perhaps Mr Toyota can help. Also I have nothing on Speed Cameras or the audible pre warn, nor is there anything on Lane Guidance. Again maybe Toyota can comment on this. I have seen a prior comment on whether somebody had Touch and Go or Touch and Go Plus, I am now unsure as to what particular system I actually now. I am expecting the Touch and Go Plus system to be on mine as that is what Toyota indicated for the T-Spirit
            Good luck Ernie

          7. Hi Disha,
Just to let you know the latest on speed cameras, I will copy what I have sent to Ernie.
Here is the latest news on speed cameras. you are right, there is’nt any.

            Keep intouch
            Alan

          8. Hi Alan,

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention, and we are sorry to hear you are unhappy with your Prius. We are currently investigating the concerns that have been raised regarding the Touch & Go Pro system with our colleagues in our Technical and Customer Relations departments.

Please bear with us while we resolve this matter.

            Thank you,

            Grant

          9. Hi Ernie,
I have been though the instruction book (which I now have)
and cannot find any reference to changing the speed limit info, to tell you when you are over the speed limit.
            What does yours do?

          10. OK – here’s the answers to your questions guys…

Starting from the screen that displays the current map tap the “Options’ buttoning the bottom right of your screen.

From the next menu tap “Map settings” – this is where all the good stuff is hidden!

If you want to show the speed limit for the current road / have it go red if you exceed said speed / or nag you with a “You are over the speed limit” voice warning – tap on the option called “Speed Limits” (it’s the 5th option down)

This will take you to a new screen, tap on the tick box next to “Show on map”, and if required “Audible warning, if limit exceeded by:” if you select audible warning you then have the option of selecting a trigger level for the alerts (5km/h , 10km/h etc) – I’d recommend 10km/h otherwise it gets annoying!

Press the return arrow in the bottom left of the screen to return to map options.

If you want to be alerted to speed cameras you now need to hit the down arrow at the bottom right of the screen TWICE to scroll through more options.

You should only see one option on that screen – “Show safety cameras”. Ticking this box will show cameras on the map view, as well as giving two audible alerts as you approach a camera.

Press the return arrow in the bottom left of the screen twice to return to map view.

There – all done! Wasn’t that hard was it? ;o)

          11. On Map config, yes you are correct I have the same as you, only three options. Having said that though, I was driving on the M23 last week end and the motorway turn off info automatically appeared, so I am not sure if the options are an issue or not. As you say, You, Disha and myself seem to be the first with these cars and we are all (including Toyota) on a learning curve.

As far as speed cameras go, This has been the fastest Toyota has done something (I had 5 different delivery dates). The comments from the web have been removed already. I would have appreciated some sort of better service on this. It is only a software programme and couldnt this been upgraded? (What about it Toyota?) the easy option for deleting from the web seems to have be taken. No C/Service phone call returned at all.

Having had a great big moan about the satnav and it’s capablilties. The satnav still served it’s purpose on my 700 mile trip last weekend very well, Its just the principle of not doing what was stated and expected. The car itself is a great motor and Im very happy with it

            Good driving all Ernie

  16. I have checked the web site as well and if says
“With 3D mapping this sat nav shows you live motorway signs also with a comprehensive database of speed and safety cameras.”
Also the brochure tells you there is Speed limit information?

    1. OK – here’s the answers to your questions guys…
Starting from the screen that displays the current map tap the “Options’ button in the bottom right of your screen.

      1. Hi Tony,
Sorry, but I have sat in the car for the last 20 mins with your instructions. With the current map on screen there is no option button to be seen, only a – sign in the bottom right corner and a + sign and menu in the bottom left, I have been through the menu and cannot find an options.
I have also been into setup (Navigation) that is where I turned the speed info on, but cannot find anything else.
I have the touch and go pro with the teck pack.
Sounds great when I can find it, does not help that I do not have the instruction manual.

        1. Hi Alan

Ah you have the Tech Pack – so you have the Touch & Go Pro with the 8″ screen. Apologies!

I thought the queries previously raised were with the standard TSpirit Touch & Go Plus system.

The two systems have a very similar feature set, but a very different menu system!

I’ll see what I can did up for you.

          1. Hi Tony,
Any help will be very much appreciated, no idea how long it will be before I get an instruction manual.
            Are you with Toyota?

            Alan

          2. Hi Alan

Happy to help – not affiliated with Toyota in any way – just a very informed consumer of their products LOL

I have the upmost sympathy for Toyota GB employees as they often have little information regarding the product detail. I have a great relationship with my local dealership who are fantastic, but its often the case that I have more info than they do.

Haven’t managed to dig up anything for you yet – but I’m still working on it :o)

          3. Hi Tony,
It must be all well hidden, I have been through the set up and menue a dozen times and cannot find it, Toyota tell you to contact your dealer, but they have no idea either.
I have put a general message on, lets see if they contact me.
            Alan

  17. I posted a question re the spare wheel not being on my new prius, on the 26th April at 1504hrs and there has not been any reply, DOES THIS MEAN YOU DO NOT KNOW THE ANSWER.

    1. Hi Alan,
Apologies for the somewhat late reply.
Your new Prius with Solar Roof comes with the repair kit, not with the space saver. There is however a ‘space’ for a space saver (exactly the same as on non-solar roof derivatives, so the size of the space is literally the same). You can speak with your Centre and order a pram wheel/space saver as a spare part. We would recommend you contact your Local Centre for more details: http://ow.ly/aWsL5. We hope this helps.

  18. HI, I have just received the brochure and notice the car I have ordered (T/spirit with solar roof) does not come with a spare wheel, why?
Is there room for one and what is the price?

  19. I have a query about the new 2012 Prius. I went into a local Toyota dealership yesterday and they had one of the new 2012 Prius in the showroom. After having a good look around I noticed that it appeared to have a small heated window element (or de-mister / de-froster or whatever you wish to call it) located in the small rear SIDE triangular window directly behind the rear door on the drivers side, this is a RHD UK model. There was not one on the other side on the car.

    So my question is :-
Is this an electric de-mister / de-froster for the little rear window to aid rear visability ??

If it is the case, then Toyota have made a big error, as it is on the WRONG SIDE of the car for a RHD UK vehicle, as when i sat in the car yesterday you could not see out of this widow at all, even via the rear view mirror. I think that it is for a LHD car as it makes sense, but have Toyota forgot to move it to the near side of the car for the UK RHD version????

By the way, the sales staff in the showroom clearly had no idea what this was and tried to fob me off by saying it was an antenna, which it is not as it has two power connectors to it and looks exactly like a heater window element.

    Answers please Toyota !!!!!

    1. Hi Michael,
      Thank you for your question.
The new Prius has adopted a diversity antenna to improve radio reception. This new spec entails the traditional pole antenna on the roof but now also a window integrated antenna in the rear quarter glass, which is what you saw in the rear window. So, in fact, the advice given by the staff that day was correct.
We hope this helps and please do ask if you have any further questions.

  20. hi what changes have been made to the prius that are not visable on the 2012 is there increased sound proofing etc

    1. Hi Chris

Apologies about the delay in getting back to you.

Regarding improvements to the 2012 Prius, there has been increased sound proofing amongst other things, for full details, see the Prius product page on the Toyota website here http://ow.ly/abctm.

      We hope this helps.

  21. Hi,

    Three questions-

1- How do i get front parking sensors on the Prius, they used to be a stand alone option?

2- Did the 10th Anniversary Edition come with front parking sensors as standard?

3- Is there more options available for the Prius? I’ve seen previous spec sheets that include rrof racks, hot/cool boxes, etc. Current extras list is quite small.

    Thanks

    David

    1. Hi David

Apologies about the delay in getting back to you, below are the answers to your questions.

      1. The front parking sense are now part of the Technology pack, and available on the T-Spirit model only.
      2. The 10th Anniversary edition did not come with front parking sensors as standard.
      3. Check out the spec page for the Prius here – http://ow.ly/ab0qK and have a look at the accessories section, this should outline everything which is currently available.

We hope that helps and do let us know if you have anymore questions.

      1. Hi Richard
Took delivery of the 2012 Prius last week…fantastic car!
Checked with our local dealer today regarding accessories and there is no sign of a boot liner….they were due into the UK in January but there are none – there is no expected delivery time and no way for them to roder one.
        Any ideas please?

        Paul

        1. Hi Paul,
Thanks for the post and we are delighted you’ve got your new Prius!
Regarding the boot liner, I’m afraid we’ll have to refer you to the Centre as they will be best placed to advise. May we suggest you ask them to contact you as soon as they have them in stock. Apologies they aren’t readily available however the Centre will be able to help you out here. We hope this helps and we really hope you enjoy your new car!

      2. HI Richard,
I have just taken delivery of my Prius T/Spirit with tech pack and there are no front parking senors on it.

        Alan

        1. Hi Alan, so how does your 2012 prius with tech pack auto park if it has no front sensors? The comment from Toyota just above seems to indicate that the tech pack does come with front sensors. Can you advise on what is correct?

          1. Hi Michael,
I have never had a reply to why there are not front sensors on the tech pack, when they stated there was.
There is a sensor on each corner at the front, (that must be for the auto parking) but they give no warning signal and there are no sensors on the front.
Perhaps Toyota would like to reply as to why they stated above that there was front parking sensors.

          2. Hi Alan,
We’re sorry to hear you are not clear about this question. These are not the traditional parking sensors, which alert you when nearing obstacles. These are distance sensors, which are used for two features within the technology pack, as follows:
            1. Adaptive Cruise Control, which keeps you at a minimum preset distance from the vehicle in front.
            2. Intelligent Parking Assist, which automatically manoeuvres you into your chosen parking spot.
We hope this resolves any confusion.

  22. I have ordered a Prius T-Spirit with the Tech Pack early Dec, I have been advised we are now going to get the 2012 new version, and advised that it would be a March delivery, apologies were sent that there would be a delay, but have no idea when delivery will take place. I dropped in to find out last week what was happeing, and was only told that they have a chassis number now and it was being built

I am also interested to find out whether the 10gb hard drive system music system which was available on the 3rd gen version, will be available on the new model,as there seems to be no mention of this anymore?

    1. Hi Ernie

Thanks for getting in touch, we’re sorry to hear about the delays you’ve experienced. In answer to your question, the 10GB hard drive music system is no longer on the Prius, but as you have the Tech Pack, this includes Touch & Go Pro, which along with its many features also includes Bluetooth and USB connectivity for mp3 players, to find out more about the system, follow the link http://ow.ly/9G0PL. I hope that answers your question.

    2. Hi Ernie, Are you still paying the old price for you car?
I was told when I ordered mine on 16th Jan, that it would be the new 2012 but at the old price because the new price list was not out, I am now told I will have to pay the new 2012 price.

      1. Hi Alan
I put down the deposit for the Prius on Dec 13th, I wasn’t even aware there was a new version coming out, until Toyota rang me up to tell me I was getting the 2012 version. I was informed that the cost was now fixed, and that I am getting the 2012 version, at the “Old” cost. I believe I am going to be one of the lucky few.

        1. Hi Ernie,
Thanks for that, that is what I was told, originally and then I was told there was no price promise and I would to pay the new price, so I will be contacting Toyota via my dealer, they cannot have one rule for one then another for somesone else.

          1. Hi Alan
I see on your previous notes, that you had changed your order to get the extra’s that were available, maybe that is the reason you are getting a different price, because you ordered those items after the prices came out! Would it be just those items that Toyota are asking you to pay for and not on the car itself?

I still have had no word about catalogues, delivery time since my first comment, so pretty much in the dark about it all

          2. Hi Ernie,
Yes I added the tech pack, 10 days after my order on 16th Jan,for the car with solar roof (as soon as I found out you could have both, you could not have both on the previous one). I am prepared to pay the extra for the tech pack, but the rest should be at the orginal price. No idea what the new car would look like until this blog started on the 19th Jan.Perhaps Toyota would like to respond to this blog.
I have already been intouch with the dealer by e-mail.
I have not seen any brochure, still waiting, been told the end of March now. I have been told delivery is in June.

  23. I’ve taken delivery of a T-Spirit ordered in mid-January.
The car is a delight to drive but a number of factors have left me disappointed.
The Intelligent Park Assist is now an ‘option’. So although that’s one of the major reasons for my purchase it isn’t there.
The 10GB hard disc drive has vanished.
I appear to have ‘dark blue’ not ‘orion blue’ which I ordered.
I ordered the ‘orion blue option of dark interior’. The interior of the cabin is dark. Th boot is light grey.
I reported this to the sales executive who said he would refer it to management. It’s now 5 days and no response. My
letter to the managing director goes now.
Instead of being thrilled I feel really let down.

    1. Hi Andy

Very sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this matter, we’re also sorry to hear about the concerns and issues you’ve experienced. This a matter for our Customer Relations team who you may have contacted already but if you haven’t here is a link to the contact page, http://blog.toyota.co.uk/how-to-contact-toyota-uk. Let us know if we can help you in any other ways.

  24. Hi

Any news on that brochure yet? I’m in the odd position where I’ve ordered a new Prius based on the previously flawless reputation of my previous Toyota ownership – and I’m due to pick it up this Friday – yet have little or no info about what I’m actually getting!

That makes me a sad panda :o(

    1. Hi Tone,
I know what you mean, I first enquired about a new prius in December, and was told that what I wanted to order would be the new 2012, and we are now in March and still no brochure,
it has been guess work with the extras, and although I ordered it on 16th Jan, I have still no idea when I will get one!!!!

    2. Hi Tony

Thanks for getting in-touch, apologies about the delay with the brochures, we have been assured that they are in the final stages and will be dispatched soon to your local Centres, sorry for the hold-up and we hope you’re looking forward to collecting your new Prius.

      1. The brochure delay is becoming a joke. I delayed ordering for months, and in the end bought a replacement T-Spirit from the price list. I’ve still 10 weeks to wait and would like a little peace of mind on options (which the updated site at least moves towards) but don’t understand how it’s quicker to release a car than release a brochure…

        1. Hi Dom

Apologies on the delay of the brochure, you can expect them ASAP, in the meantime do check out the 2012 Prius product page on the website which lists the latest options and accessories, you can find it here, http://ow.ly/abew7. When we get further confirmation on the brochures being sent out, we’ll let you know.

  25. Good to see that the upgrades address areas highlighted by customer feedback, especially improved noise insulation. But disappointed that for your £1500 you only get one choice of leather colour – black! Please can you consider offering one or two additional colours in order to give customers a wider choice and an opportunity to personalise their Prius’ interior, given that we spend more time looking at the interior than the exterior? And will these spec upgrades also apply to the Plug-in?

    1. Hi Martin

Thanks for getting in touch, we’re pleased to hear you like the improvements that we’ve made. We can confirm there is only one colour option regarding the leather interior, we’re sorry that you’re frustrated about the lack of colours available. Further details about the spec upgrades available to the Pruis Plug-in will be announced soon, stay tuned for further announcements.

  26. Hi

I’m looking to order a T-spirit with Technology pack through my company car scheme subject to a test drive (hopefully next week). I spoke to a local dealer and he said I would be looking at August delivery (6 months) as the Technology pack was a special order. Is this correct ? Is there any way of getting a car faster ?

    Thanks

    Jeremy

    1. Hi Jeremy

Glad to hear you’re interested in a new 2012 Prius T-Spirit. Your local Centre is correct when they say August is currently the delivery date for new T-Spirit models ordered with the optional Technology Pack due to customer demand. We hope you think it will be worth the wait once you’ve enjoyed your test drive.

      Thanks for getting in touch.

    2. I’ve just ordered a 2012 Prius TSpirit in Pearl White (with no extras) to replace my existing Gen3 – and am being quoted mid March for delivery. :o)

I’ve always found if you keep the order simple – you get it quick.

  27. HI Ollie,
Just seen the new colours on the Web site, so thought I would change my order to a Cabernet Red, to be told it would put back the delivery untill August, cannot understand this, do they spray them straight away (delivery at the moment is June)

    1. Hi Alan

Thanks for getting in touch, we are currently looking into your question and will aim to get you a reply as soon as possible.

      Thanks

      1. I would much prefer the Cabernet Red, but not prepared to wait any longer than june, I first order this car on 16th Jan 12, then as soon as I found out you could have extras, I ordered them, I was first told I would have the car by 1st May, cannot understand why a change of colour causes a extra 2 month delay. Oliver is dealing with this.

        1. Hi Alan,

Thanks for your question and apologies for the delay. Due to the change in your order, there is a slightly longer delivery time. If you would like to discuss this further then you can contact our Customer Relations department on http://ow.ly/9co7P who will be happy to help you. Many thanks.

  28. Hi Ollie
Just a quick thank-you for guiding me/us all through the new prius launch…my order goes in tonight and that certainly wouldn’t have happened without your info…cheers!

    Paul

    1. Hi Paul,
Thank you for your kind words and we are glad we’ve helped. Please do refer to the blog for the latest new around Toyota and feel free to ask any questions, we’ll help where we can! In the meantime, we really hope you enjoy your new car.

      1. Hi Ollie,

I have also ordered mine 15 days ago after consalting you. at some point, dealer did not have answer but I told them and they confirmed the same. Thanks a lot helping us to buy our new Prius.

        Cheers,
        Disha.

  29. Hi
Im a little confused (easily done!) And hope you can clarify…?
If I order a new prius today, it will be the 2012MY but the website hasnt been updated with the new specs and options therefore the current web specs/options won’t match the car that is delivered as there are new standard specs. If you are building these 2012 MY now, why cant you formally share the specs on the website so I know that Im configuring a car I while actually get……?
Hope that all makes sense…people using the website to spec and order wont be getting what they think they are ordering…!
    Cheers
    Paul

    1. Hi Paul,

You’ll be pleased to know the New Prius information page has just gone live on the Toyota website http://ow.ly/96GyB giving you new images and details of the specifications and the options that you can pre-order. Keep tuned for more information in March but we hope this helps.

      1. Hi again….
Just one question with some of the details….
From the prius page…under enhanced specifications –
For example, the Head-Up display is an elegant answer to that age old-problem of taking your eyes off the road to check your speed. Instead this is projected onto the base of the windscreen.

Another unique feature is Touch Tracer, which makes it easy to use wheel-mounted switches without looking down. All it takes is a touch of your thumb and an image of the button cluster appears in the high-mounted display, comfortably within view.

*Optional in T3 and T4 grades, standard in T Spirit grade.

Its this last bit that is confusing me as when looking at the T3, T4 and TSpirit specs, both the heads up and touch tracer are standard on the T3 and therefore are also on the T4 and TSpirit models…so what exactly does “*Optional in T3 and T4 grades, standard in T Spirit grade.” refer to?

Thanks again and apologies for the questions…I just want to make sure I get my order right 🙂
        Paul

        1. …Im hoping that the *option comment should relate to the touch and go Pro Plus rather than the heads up and Touch tracer…if so…I’m all sorted.

          Cheers
          Paul

    2. Hi Paul,

In addition to the previous reply, your Local Centre will always be able to help you with answering specific questions around a new order, including the specifications and optional packs. Please follow the link to find your Local Centre http://ow.ly/96GO9. Many thanks.

  30. HI,
I thought the brochure for the new prius was available on line from today. (wish to check out the new colours)

    1. Hi Alan,
We had expected the brochure to be released around this time but I’ve just been informed that it now can be expected at the end of this month. Sorry for this slight delay however, if you are interested in seeing the two new colours, some of the Centres may have the models in for display. If you’d like to see them it may be worth calling to see if they have them in http://ow.ly/925zk. Otherwise you’ll have to wait for the brochure, I’m afraid. Thanks for the question.

  31. Hi
Will the privacy glass be an option on all specs for the new 2012 version…or just the top end ones?
    Thanks
    Paul

    1. Hi Paul,
The Privacy Glass option will be available to order on the T Spirit model 2012 Prius. For full specifications on the 2012 Prius please visit http://ow.ly/8TqJn. Many thanks for your question.

      1. Thanks Ollie…but I thought the current website hasn’t been updated for the 2012 model as the tech pack still quotes LED lights that will be standard on the 2012 model. I’ll check out the brochure next week.
        Thanks Again,
        Paul

        1. Hi Paul

          http://tinyurl.com/7ct9hyy

Have a look at the link above, it’s the ‘new’ price list, with a section on the new Prius which describes options/standard fit, etc. It shows the Privacy Glass to be an option on the T-Spirit only.

          Hope it helps
          Pini

        2. Hi Paul,
Good spot – the information I sent is correct but the link is for the current model. Best to await the release for the brochure, as you say, for full details. Many thanks for your reply.

          1. Hi Ollie,
Is there an heated leather seat option available now, cannot see any mention of it for the new Prius?

          2. Hi Alan,
There won’t be a heated leather seat option on the new Prius. The brochure is due to be available from next week. Either ask your Centre for a copy or order one online http://ow.ly/8TXGR. Thanks for your question.

    1. Hi Derrick,

The front seats are new and offer wider adjustment, both fore and aft and in height range, making it easier for the most comfortable driving position to be achieved.

      Hope that helps.

  32. Looks like the new prices are out… ‘:-)

  33. I have a 3rd Gen Prius T-Spirit

And since bought have always had a problem with demisting the inside windscreen & rear window, It seems to take for ever too clear.

Even with both heaters front & rear on, another question why does the A/C come on when the front heater is switched on.

I hope that Toyota has looked at this problem.

    1. Hi Charles,
The air conditioning comes on automatically when the front heater is switched on, to help with clearing the windows more quickly. Air conditioning systems have a dehumidifier to help take moisture out of the air to aid the demisting process. You can turn off the air conditioning when it automatically comes on by manually pressing the A/C button and you can also change the speeds of the fans to suit your requirements. Several factors can affect the time it takes to demist the windows, such as the moisture in the air in the car, the temperature of the windows and the temperature and speed of air flowing from the various fans in the car. Many thanks for your question.

    1. Hi Pini,
Thank you for your questions. The vehicle brochure will be available both from your local Centre and online from the week commencing the 13th February 2012. This will contain all of the information you will need in terms of costs and additional options and accessories. Sorry I can’t definitively answer you today but the official guide will reveal all! Many thanks.

      1. Thanks for the reply – do you know what the lead time will be? I’m looking to take delivery before the end of April, and it may well be a deal breaker if it’s going to be any later…. 🙁

        1. Hi Pini,
The lead time will depend on the model and specification you are looking to order. My suggestion would be to contact your Local Centre who will be able to talk over any details and inform you of the expected lead time on orders. Many thanks.

  34. I have decided to have the Teck pack, do you know if insurance companies give any discount for the pre-crash saftey System?

    1. Hi Alan,
All cars fall into various categories which will determine the insurance needed. As we can’t advise on behalf of your chosen insurance company we would suggest you speak with them directly. Be sure to inform them of the specification of your car, including the additional Technology Pack (with PCS (Pre-Crash Safety System)) and they will be able to tell you of the costs involved. I do hope this helps. Many thanks.

  35. Hi Oliver,
does techonology pack also includes leather seats on t-spirit ?
or is it optional pack ? if yes, what could be the cost on t-spirit ?

    Thanks again.

    1. Hi Disha,
Thanks for your questions. The Pre-Crash Safety System, included as part of the Technology Pack, is designed to minimise the impact of a potential collision. Information about how the system works can be found here: http://ow.ly/8H9ej Black leather seats are not part of the Technology Pack but will be available across the Prius range, priced at £1,500 including VAT. Please note that the official brochure for the 2012 Prius is due to be available shortly, ahead of the vehicle’s on sale date in March. Prices quoted ahead of the on sale date are indicative and subject to change.

  36. Hi Oliver, When is the brochure available, and can I see the two new colours anywhere now, (as I have an order just gone in)?

    1. Hi Alan,
The brochure should be out on the week commencing 13th February and you will be able to get one from your local Centre or you can order one online from the Toyota website. You will then be able to see the whole range of colours available once this is released. Many thanks.

  37. I like the idea of softer suspension & additional soundproofing, these are the only things that spoil my experience with my current 2010 T-Spirit. The LED headlghts & folding mirrors are a nice touch too. The only thing missing is an electrically heated front screen for frosty mornings, save having to wait 5 minutes, wasting fuel, for the screen to demist after scraping off the frost. Is the 2012 T-Spirit going to lose the park assist and rear view camera ?

    1. Hi Keith,
Thanks for the post and your questions. Intelligent Park Assist will be available with the 2012 Prius T Spirit as part of the optional Technology Pack. The Technology Pack upgrade will also include the Toyota Touch Pro advanced multimedia navigation system (more details above). With regard to the rear view camera, this will be standard on all 2012 Prius models along with new power-folding heated door mirrors. We hope this information is helpful.

  38. I have just ordered a T-Spirit with solar roof on 16th Jan.
I am now worried that I will not get this 2012 upgrade?

    1. Hi Alan,
Thank you for your post. In this instance we would recommend you contact the Centre you ordered your car from. They will be able to clarify which model you’ve ordered and can answer any further questions you may have about your order. Many thanks.

  39. I pleased to see that Toyota have at last moved with technology and now have what all satnav’s have. The new model looks good and will see it at my local dealers when it comes in. Unfortunately I have like others purchased a separate satnav which gives me regular updates. This one already gives me the information that Toyota are only just bringing in. The only redeeming feature is that there is 3 years free updates. Is this the carrot!!

  40. I’m really quite excited to see what the Prius+ is like, particularly as a large family. Are there any release dates and further information on this, not that I can afford one, as it would be interesting to see how it stacks up against the more established seven seater models currently available.
