Budding Engineers visit Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK

Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK LTD (TMUK) is giving young people across Staffordshire and Derbyshire an insight into the career opportunities available to them within the manufacturing sector.

Pupils from local schools are visiting TMUK’s factory in Burnaston, Derbyshire, as part of the Government’s ‘See Inside Manufacturing’ initiative.

Launched in March 2011 by the Business Secretary, Vince Cable, See Inside Manufacturing aims to challenge perceptions of the manufacturing sector, and encourage more young people to take up subjects that boost the UK’s skills base – such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Nine local schools from the Derby and Burton regions will visit TMUK, where they will be given the opportunity to take part in hands-on training activities. Pupils will be given an insight into the plethora of skilled, high-tech and highly paid career opportunities that the manufacturing industry has to offer.

Speaking of the See Inside Manufacturing scheme, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Rt Hon Dr Vince Cable MP said “See Inside Manufacturing plays an important part in challenging outdated perceptions of manufacturing. In the past year alone it has helped thousands of young people see just how dynamic the industry is, with nearly nine in ten saying they would now consider a career in manufacturing”.

Tony Walker, TMUK Deputy Managing Director, added “Toyota welcomes initiatives designed to promote a greater recognition of the contribution and importance of manufacturing to the UK economy. The See Inside Manufacturing initiative complements our existing activities aimed at engaging with young people to encourage and inspire them to be the next generation of Engineers”.
