Toyota has announced its plans for this summer’s 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed, which takes place from 28th June to 1st July.

Star of this year’s spectacular will be the Toyota GT86, which will mark its official UK on-sale date by leading the action at the event’s Moving Motor Show.

Also present will be the ground breaking TS030 Hybrid Le Mans challenger and the Dynojet Racing Toyota Avensis.

Both the TS030 and Avensis will be joined by the new Gazoo Racing GT86 – which will appear at the 24 hour endurance race in Nürburgring, Germany on 17th May.

The TS030 Hybrid makes its race debut at Le Mans on 16 June, but returns to Goodwood to lead Toyota’s modern racing machinery up the famous hillclimb course.

Flying the flag for the best of British motorsport, Frank Wrathall show off his Dynojet Racing-prepared Toyota Avensis touring car.

True to this year’s festival theme of “Young Guns – Born to Win”, 25-year-old Wrathall was one of the sensations of last year’s British Touring Car Championship, racing to four podium finishes.

To announce news of Toyota’s plans, the GT86 put in a surprise appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed’s preview day, alongside a historic Corolla AE86 rally car, run by Midgley Motor Cars.

It was the first time the GT86 has been seen in public in the UK, and the car attracted huge interest.

Two versions of the GT86 appeared at the famous hill climb course, the first of which was driven by Dynojet Racing’s Wrathall.

He was joined by Patrick Mortell, Director of the 750 Motor Club and popular MR2 Championship.

Wrathall said he was “surprised at how well balanced the GT86 is, it’s the kind of car you can drive quickly, right from the word go.”

“The steering feels really responsive. You really feel a part of it.”

Three lucky journalists got to see what Frank was talking about as they joined him individually for a run up the hill.
