GT86 scoops Honest John Performance Car of the Year award

Toyota GT86

It’s another win for the thrilling Toyota GT86 coupe, which has proved the most popular sports car on honestjohn.co.uk, picking up the Performance Car of the Year award for the second year running. The model has also garnered more page views on the site in the past twelve months than any of its rivals.

Dan Harrison, honestjohn.co.uk editor, spoke of the car’s excellent road manners and sporty driving experience, saying: “With a genuine sports car feel, superb handling and the ability to always put a smile on your face, the GT86 is the car we’ve been waiting several years for Toyota to build.”

He added: “We love the driver-focused feel and the boxer engine, so while it may not be the fastest performance car around, not much else can match it for sheer enjoyment. It seems our users love it too, with the GT86 review proving very popular once again, winning the Performance Car award for the second year running.”

The Honest John award is the latest in a series of wins for the GT86, which include Top Gear Car of the Year 2012, Scottish Car of the Year 2012Auto Express Performance Car of the Year 2012, and a five-star award from Autocar.

With a front-mounted, 197bhp 2.0-litre boxer engine driving the rear wheels, low centre gravity and low weight; the GT86 keeps the spirit of classic sports cars alive. It’s a real driver’s car, with a sharp, snappy, short throw gearshift, tuneful exhaust note, and stunning handling characteristics.

The GT86 is available from £25,110; further information is available on the designated section of the Toyota UK website. Fancy a spin? Leave a comment below, and we’ll help you get behind the wheel at your local Toyota dealer.

  1. Do TOYOTA do a proper 2 + 2 version of this – so that I can get my lovely Mum in Law and my lovely Wife both into the car with me driving – if so, then I would trade in my Mazda 6 and my MX-5 TOMORROW and call it JOB DONE 🙂

    1. Hi Andrew,
Thanks for posting. It’s really great to hear you’re a fan of the GT86. We’d actually describe it as a 2+2, but we recognise that the space in the back is fairly tight for adults. The best idea would probably be to arrange a test drive at your local dealer so you can experience it for yourself – you won’t regret it! Hope this helps!

  2. I ordered mine earlier this week, and reading news like this only makes me more excited. Can’t wait to pick it up!
