Toyota Auris Hybrid leads the way at Goodwood

We’ve been getting excited about 1 July for quite some time. Now there’s even more reason to circle the date in your calendar – Toyota will mark Auris Hybrid’s official on-sale date with a new curtain-raising attraction for the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Toyota takes dual honours at the Engine of the Year Awards 2010

Hot on the heels of last week’s success at the ETA Green Car Awards, Toyota has picked up two awards for its fuel-efficient engines. The 2010 International Engine of the Year jury has named Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain as the ‘Green Engine of the Year’, while the 1.0-litre VVT-i engine found in Aygo, iQ and Yaris has won ‘Sub-1.0 Litre Engine of the Year’ for the fourth year in a row.

Toyota and EDF Energy launch UK Prius Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle leasing programme

Would you like a car that offers over 100mpg? How about CO2 emissions of just 59g/km? That’s what we had the chance to drive yesterday. Two things shouldn’t come as a surprise though: it was a Toyota hybrid, and it carried the familiar Prius badge. But this was unlike any Prius we had experienced before. This was Prius PHV.

Behind the scenes with Auris Hybrid: How well do you know your hybrid technology?

We think we know quite a lot about Hybrid Synergy Drive here on the blog. After all, Toyota has been developing hybrid technology for over 10 years, having already produced three generations of the award-winning Prius. But we’re not sure we can quite live up to the standards set by Toyota Manufacturing UK – its members now have their own national qualification in hybrid technology!

Triple wins for Toyota iQ and Yaris at the Green Car of the Year Awards 2010

It’s a sign of the innovative iQ’s success that, two years on from launch, it’s been named overall winner at the Green Car Awards 2010. On the way to winning the main prize, Toyota’s smallest car also claimed first place in the city car category, while the Yaris D-4D took top honours in the supermini class.

Behind the scenes with Auris Hybrid: Toyota demonstrates its commitment to quality

We were very impressed by the new Auris Hybrid when we drove one for the first time in Barcelona at last month’s press launch. It wasn’t just the excellent real-world fuel economy figures that caught our attention – no matter what we threw at it, from mountain roads to heavy rush hour traffic, the car coped with consummate ease.

Behind the scenes: Building Auris with Hybrid Synergy Drive

In the first of a range of posts leading up to the July 1 launch of the new Auris Hybrid, we take you behind the scenes at Toyota’s manufacturing plant in Burnaston, UK. Following on from our time in Barcelona, we find out how the Auris Hybrid is built and discover the many ways in which Toyota Manufacturing UK (TMUK) has risen to the challenge of building Europe’s first mass-produced hybrid car.

Toyota secures two more awards

Vehicle security isn’t something many motorists think about too often – until the worst unfortunately happens. Toyota has long recognised the importance of high quality security systems in delivering peace of mind to Toyota owners. This commitment has been rewarded at the British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards, with top honours awarded to the Prius and Land Cruiser V8.

J.D. Power 2010: Aygo and Yaris ranked highest for satisfaction

The results from this year’s J.D. Power and Associates/WhatCar? Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Study (VOSS) are in, and it’s continued good news for Toyota. Not only did Aygo and Yaris achieve top ranking in the VOSS City Car and Small Car (Yaris equal top ranked) categories, Toyota also scored the highest rating for the Ownership Costs section, which covers issues such as fuel consumption, insurance and the cost of servicing and repairs.

Auris Hybrid press launch: the reviews

We weren’t the only ones lucky enough to drive the new Auris Hybrid in Barcelona recently. Motoring press from across Europe snapped up the chance to test Toyota’s newest full hybrid car. So, was it a hybrid hit? Two weeks on from our time at the wheel, there’s only one way to find out…
