New Toyota Yaris boasts low running costs and big-car spec

Yaris Trend and Yaris Icon+ with Appearance Pack

The Toyota Yaris range has been revised for 2014. On sale now, the model adopts a fresh grade line-up, comprised of Active, Icon, Icon Plus and Trend.

Range-topping Trend models feature stylish 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels, as well as chrome-finished door mirrors, and a distinctive matt black C-pillar decal. Icon Plus models score on style too, with Selena 10-spoke, 15-inch alloy wheels, LED rear light clusters* and front fog lights. Choose the new Glacier Pearl paint finish and you’ll also gain a bright chrome tailgate trim. Equipment is high, with automatic headlights and windscreen wipers, power windows front and rear, automatic climate control and, where a manual transmission is fitted, a higher-set centre console design fitted as standard.

Yaris Icon+ with appearance pack

For those wanting to stamp their personality to their Yaris Icon Plus or Trend, a range of option packs are available.

A Smart Pack brings keyless entry and push-button start and costs £300^.  For £750,  Icon Plus customers can add the Appearance Pack – this adds a matt black C-pillar decal to create the illusion of a floating roof, dark-tinted rear privacy glass, and a fixed panoramic roof.

Stand-out details such as LED daytime running lights, aluminium scuff plates and chrome tailgate and exhaust pipe trim come together to make up the Style Pack, costing £500.

Finally, a Protection Pack helps keep your Yaris in showroom condition, comprising front and rear parking sensors, floor mats, mud flaps, black side mouldings and boot liner and a rear bumper protection plate – it costs £700.

Toyota’s Touch & Go multimedia system can be specified on Icon, Icon Plus and Trend grades. The system provides satellite navigation, Google Local Search connection and access to a range of useful, downloadable applications for £650.

Yaris Icon+ interior

In addition to the spec and grade changes, the Toyota Yaris’ 1.4 D-4D diesel engine has been tweaked to deliver emissions that dip below the magic 99g/km barrier, qualifying for zero annual road tax. Economy has improved as well, up to 74.3 mpg on the combined cycle.

  1. Has has anyone bought mud flaps for a Toyota Icon+? I seen flaps fitted to a car the other day but for the price thay bibnot appear to give much protection.any comments oul there please.

  2. Bought a toyota yaris icon plus 1.4 d4d from bristol, parkway. Very pleased at the moment standard equipment plentiful little disappointed in the quality of plastic door trims but runs well getting over 60 miles per gallon no effort at all, nice punchy engine for it accelerates well from the start much smoother to drive than the petrol models.I own a 1.4 d4d corolla before lovely car but was getting a bit long in the tooth,. expensive to service but reluctant to let it go.
The yaris was my next choice because the new awris is a little bit too big for my driveway and garage.

    1. Hi Jeff
      Thanks for your post.
It is good to hear your feedback regarding your Yaris Icon Plus regarding the engine performance, as well as concerns regarding the interior trim. We do pass this information back to our product team which helps us improve cars in the future.
Let us know how you get on with your Yaris of if you have any other questions.

  3. Hi There,

I am looking to purchase a second hand Yaris 1.33 T spirit.

    I have some questions

Is there an adjustable lumbar support on the seats in this car?
Do the rear seats fold completely flat? (maybe with optional boot board?)
Does the car feature disc brakes on the rear axle or drums?
I have heard the 6 speed manual transmission is troublesome. Is there any truth in this?
What Urban MPG am I likely to get in the real world?
Can Cruise control be retro-fitted at my dealership and at what approx cost?
Can front and rear park assist be retro-fitted at my dealership and at what approx cost?

  4. I bought a 11 month old 1329cc Yaris MultidriveS with 10750 miles on the clock, and am very disappointed, I only average 30 mpg full tank to full tank! My previous 2005 1300cc Colour Collection Yaris( bought new), always averaged 44mpg or more! My other car a C Class 220 Mercedes Diesel Auto, always averages between41 to 44 mpg, I always check my fuel tank to tank, with both cars. When I have had this Toyota another year, I will change it, but it will not be another Toyota! and I have owned Toyotas from Starlets to Avensis’, to say I am disappointed is an understatement!

    1. Hi James
      Thanks for your post.
Sorry to hear about your Yaris. Fuel consumption issues are not so straight forward to comment on because of the number of factors which influence this. However if you are concerned with the performance of your Yaris then your local Toyota dealer will be able to take a look at this for you.

  5. I Just Want To Buy A 1.0 Active 5 dr Yaris- Nothing Fancy I Understand They Are £30 road tax, We Have An Aygo At The Moment But The Boot is Too Small.

  6. My 13 plate has a grinding noise on the steering when using lock to park. Local Jardine motors cannot find fault, any ideas?

    1. Hi Wlliam

It’s hard to know without checking it out first hand. We’ll happily get in touch with your Toyota dealer on your behalf if you wish. Which dealer is it?

    1. Hello Paul
      Thanks for your post.
Sorry to have to say that the three-door diesel Yaris is not available and the decision was reached based on the very low sales volume of this particular derivative. We try to offer as much choice as we can in terms of body-styles and engine but this model made up less than one per cent of total Yaris sales so we had to take a commercial decision here.
I know this is not the not the answer you need but hope it has helped explain why.
