KEY POINTS
- Repairs to accelerator pedals begin at 206 Toyota service centres
- Capacity to repair 6,000 vehicles per day
- 100,000 accelerator pedal repair parts in the UK by Friday
- Dealers have software upgrade for Prius brakes
‘Work begins this morning (Wednesday, 10 February) at 206 Toyota service centres across the UK to implement the fix to the accelerator pedal on the cars affected by the recall. Toyota technicians have received specific training in the repair, the parts are in stock and the first cars are being attended to.

Toyota service centres have also received the necessary software to update the Prius brake system.
The accelerator pedal recall involves 180,865 vehicles in the UK and Toyota anticipates it can be accomplished in a matter of weeks thanks to service centres extending their opening hours. The pedal repair should take no longer than 30 minutes to complete.
Steve Settle, Toyota GB Customer Services Director said: “We are doing everything we can to ensure our customers’ vehicles are attended to as promptly as possible. With the assistance of the DVLA and the commitment of all our centres, we have been able to launch a repair programme that is thorough, efficient and effective in ensuring all the vehicles affected by the recall are fixed.”

“Toyota service centres will be working extended hours and weekends. As a consequence, they have the combined capacity to repair 6,000 vehicles per day. By Friday we will have received 100,000 repair parts from Japan. We have implemented the recall as quickly as.”
Toyota will prioritise those customers whose cars have been identified as having the fault via the Toyota customer helpline or directly with centres.’

I would like to congratulate Toyota on their efficient handling of the Accelerator Pedal Recall for my Auris. Imagine my surprise when I received £20 M & S vouchers for any inconvenience caused. Well done Toyota and thank you,I would certainly purchase another Auris, it’s a brilliant car!
Toyota engineers have found an effective solution. The part they have made is a “precision-cut steel reinforcement bar”. I believe that actualy it is only a wedge which simply lifts the smoothing part off the pedal mechanism. Simple or what? I wish the Toyota marketing people would keep the real truth simple.
I have a 58 Reg (01/10) Auris which I had looked at on
19th January because the accelerator was sticking and reving up; told everything Ok.
Took it back on the 12th this month for modification to be carried out. Was given visual safety report and told everything was OK; but as no mention of the modification was mentioned on the report, I had to ask if it had been carried out and of course was told it had.
Surely some reference should have been made about the modification on the report or in the service manual for future reference.
Hi Ron,
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
A record of the work is held centrally, but if you contact the Centre that carried out your recall work, they will provide you with a stamped certificate that serves as proof of work undertaken.
I hope that helps.
My 09 Avensis is affected by the recall i filled in the website on the 8th feb. Today 23rd of feb i have filled it in again as i have heard nothing from Toyota. Thats over two weeks i think thats plenty of time to have been in touch.
Get your finger out Toyota!!!!
Hi Daniel,
I hear you’ve been contacted by your Centre. If we can do anything more to help, please let us know.
Repetitive Toyota recalls are causing considerable harm to their premium brand. more than 2 million vehicles in the US to sort out sticking gas pedals. 4.2 million vehicles in the US to correct pedals getting lodged below floor mats. nearly 700,000 motorcars in China as a result of imperfect electrical window switches. Toyota boss on Television to apologise for recall and still the media highlight issues as the company gets more tormented. I wonder how much brand value this has cost the company.
My Corolla was registered on the 29/11/2006, which would put it in the period for recall (apparently Oct 2006 – Dec 2009 for Corollas). However, when I enter the VIN in this websites recall checker I am told that my car is not to be recalled. Why the discrepeancy?
mc
Hi Mark,
It’s not a discrepancy; not every individual vehicle in the specified time period is affected. The VIN look-up functionality exists so as to distinguish between cars that are affected and cars that are not. If it said your Corolla wasn’t to be recalled, that’s it – you need take no further action.
If you have any further concerns about the recall, though, please call our Customer Relations team on 0800 1388 744.
Thanks for getting in touch.
Look at that 24hrs later job now completed , thank you Toyota.

My daughters AYGO MMT is an affected vehicle, i gave Toyota GB the vin number last week, the reply was its a vehicle for the recall,i then gave all the required details and the name of my local dealer, a week later i’ve had no contact from anyone , i’ve done all the running to get this sorted out, you have all the information ..whats the hold up ?
How did you discover the accelerator pedal problem?
Hi David,
Toyota constantly monitors feedback from customers, both directly and through the dealer network. When a developing issue arises, it is investigated and reports are submitted to Toyota in Japan. Incidents of accelerator pedals sticking came to Toyota’s attention through this process.
Look on this website http://www.toyota.co.uk/recall/ type your number plate in and it will tell you. But mr norman it looks like you have because it says Auris (Oct 2006 – 5 Jan 2010)
I took my 06 avenis into a toyato dealer for service and mot on 9/2/2010 when i collected it I asked about the accelerator pedel mod thy new less than me so I have been left with a car serviced by a toyta dealer and MOT which might be unsafe to drive .
Hi there Norman,
I’d like to reassure you that only Avensis built between November 2008 and December 2009 are affected by the accelerator pedal recall, so you need not worry. For all the official information on the recall, please go to toyota.co.uk/recall.
Thanks for getting in touch.
