Which Toyota Aygo is right for you?

There are currently six grades of Toyota Aygo in the sassy city car’s distinctive 2017 line-up. Each grade includes the letter ‘x’ in a nod to the car’s criss-cross front end.

The complete range is as follows: x, x-play, x-press, x-style, x-clusiv, and x-claim limited edition. Every one of them has its own flavour and personality, so we’ve asked each model to tell us a little bit about itself.

Aygo x – the amazing value one

I like to keep things simple and focus on value for money.

At the moment, you can put me on your driveway from as little as £8,995* and still get electric front windows, remote door locking, LED daytime running lights and an MP3-compatible stereo.

Key features:

  • 14-inch steel wheels with nine-spoke trims
  • LED daytime running lights
  • Remote door locking
  • Radio with MP3 capabilities

Aygo x-play – the playful one

If you like to play tunes on the move, you’ll love me because I’ve got a feature-packed, four-speaker audio system with steering wheel audio controls, USB and auxiliary inputs.

I’m the second most affordable model in the range, leaving you room to personalise me with tempting option packs, interchangeable exterior and interior panels, and alloy wheel designs.

Key features in addition to Aygo x:

  • 15-inch steel wheels with six-spoke trims
  • Heated and electrically adjustable door mirrors
  • Four speakers and DAB radio
  • Manual air conditioning

Aygo x-press – the one with the accents

Red is the stand-out shade for me, with eye-catching red accents applied below the front bumper and rear diffuser, the side sills, as well as a full roof decal.

I come in four exterior body colours, each of which is echoed in the instrument panel and accented with black surrounds for the air vents, gear shift and a black centre console.

Key features in addition to x-play:

  • 15-inch black or black machined ten-spoke alloy wheels
  • 7-inch x-touch touch screen multimedia system with reversing camera
  • Red roof with red accents on the bumpers and side sills
  • Privacy glass and automatic air conditioning

Aygo x-style – the fashionable one

I take a sleek, sophisticated approach to style, cherry picking components from the official accessory lines to create a unique look for the street.

Like my x-press sibling, I also come with 15-inch alloys, paparazzi-defying rear privacy glass and colour-coded door handles and mirrors.

Key features in addition to x-play:

  • 15-inch black or black machined ten-spoke alloy wheels
  • 7-inch x-touch touch screen multimedia system with reversing camera
  • Contrasting front-x, x-tension and rear diffuser
  • Privacy glass and automatic air conditioning

Aygo x-clusiv – the posh one

x-clusiv by name, exclusive by nature. I am the only one to pick if you want to stand out from the crowd with Cyan Splash metallic paintwork – one of seven gorgeous colour options.

Inside, you’ll find that I’m quite the scaled-down executive, thanks to dark grey Vogue leather seats featuring a multi-panel design and contrasting anthracite grey sections. Splendid.

Key features in addition to x-play:

  • 15-inch machined-face five-spoke alloy wheels
  • 7-inch x-touch touch screen multimedia system with reversing camera
  • Smart entry and push-button start
  • Automatic air conditioning

Aygo x-claim limited edition – the rare one

I’m the new top-of-the-range Aygo designed for the fortunate few… well, just 350 exclusive customers. I arrive in just one statement colour scheme – White Flash bodywork with contrasting burgundy decals and a fabulous, sun-welcoming full-length retractable canvas roof.

In line with my status as the most VIP of all Aygos, my interior specification is suitably rarefied. It including such niceties as automatic air conditioning, leather upholstery and additional burgundy highlights.

Key features in addition to x-play:

  • 15-inch white machined-face five-spoke alloy wheels
  • 7-inch x-touch touch screen multimedia system with reversing camera
  • Bordeaux electrically retractable canvas Fun Roof
  • Burgundy exterior decorations

Toyota Aygo: good to know

The Aygo is priced between £8,995* and £14,195.

A five-speed manual transmission and x-shift automated manual transmission are available. The combined cycle economy figure for cars fitted with the x-shift transmission is 67.2mpg. Manuals return 68.9mpg.

In the 2017 Driver Power survey by Auto Express, owners voted Aygo their Best City Car. “The Toyota took the top spot thanks to excellent scores in infotainment and fuel economy, as well as reliability,” revealed the magazine, adding: “Owners also found the Aygo the best-looking of the city cars, giving it the highest score for styling.”

From its fun styling with customisable colour combinations to the lively performance about town, Aygo is the perfect city runabout. In common with all new Toyotas, the Aygo comes with a peace-of-mind five-year/100,000-mile warranty.
