The upgraded 2016 Toyota Touch 2 with Go multimedia system offers significant new features over the outgoing version, including tile-based menu designs, improved functionality, and a simplified connection to the MyToyota customer portal.

From the 2016 model year, the range of multimedia systems has been simplified to two options: Toyota Touch 2, and Toyota Touch 2 with Go.

Vehicles with 2016 Toyota Touch 2 with Go as standard, or with Go selected as an option, now benefit from free annual map care updates for three years as well as three years of connected services. High-spec Excel grade models (excluding Yaris) include the extra functions of 3D maps, voice recognition, and text-to-speech within the navigation system.

Touch 2 with Go: new features

The 2016 Toyota Touch 2 with Go has 10 new features, accessed via a new tile-based menu design (see below) which offers greater clarity and improved operation. It also improves functionality by reducing the number of steps required to complete each operation.

The navigation menu and sub-menus have been simplified, and a new split-screen view allows users to see more functions at a glance, combining the navigation map with access to settings and app information (see below). In addition, the navigation screen can be customised so owners can create short-cut tile icons to frequently used operations.

One of the key new features is Auto-navigation (see below), a function that allows the driver to programme the navigation system with up to four regular destinations and a departure time window for each day of the week.

When the vehicle is switched on within that departure time the navigation automatically activates, plotting the most congestion-free route to the chosen destination on that particular day. In order to make this proposal, information is drawn from TomTom real-time traffic information.

Further navigation enhancements include the ability to check Street View images and what the weather is like at your destination. As you approach the destination, the system will also inform the driver of available parking spaces nearby.

Vehicles with built-in voice recognition now benefit from Siri eyes-free software, which delivers vocal control of Apple iPhone functions. The driver merely needs to press and hold the voice recognition button on the steering wheel to talk to Siri on his iPhone (Android version not available).

The 2016 Toyota Touch 2 with Go software update now allows owners to establish a mobile data connection with the device and create a MyToyota customer account from inside the car, thereby avoiding any difficulties programming the unit’s individual ID number.

After pressing the [SETUP] button the device will take you through a straightforward step-by-step process to create the account. The setup menu also includes a ‘Let’s Get Started’ QR code which will open an online quick start guide on the user’s mobile device. Touch 2 with Go: When will each model get it?

The new 2016 Toyota Touch 2 with Go began to be installed in cars produced from 1 January 2016 and will be installed in all current models produced from 1 June. Brand new models such as the Toyota C-HR will have this latest generation system from the start of production.

  2. Hi. I have just purchased a 2018 CHR Hybrid icon. Most expensive car I’ve bought only to discover I have big media unit that doesn’t do very much. It’s not a navigation unit but was led to believe it would have CarPlay or mirroring which would mean I could use navigation from phone. None of it works! I can’t read texts or emails. I can’t activate Siri from the car screen .. only able to activate on phone (tried using hang up button). No voice recognition either. Is this right? Is there something I can do to be able to use more functions? Please help 😏

    I bought Toyota Verso Design (66 plate) two weeks ago. It’s equipped with Toyota Touch 2 with Go and Although I managed to connect it with my phone via bluetooth, I was not able to voice operate it even though there is a button designated for voice recognition on the steering wheel.

    I read the car’s manual and was searching online for answers, but I was unable to find any information regarding the voice control on Verso.

    Would you be able to provide me with some information on this matter or assist me in resolving my issue?

The Voice Recognition button is included on all models incase Touch 2 with Go Plus is specified by customers.

  4. Hi, I have just bought an Avensis Business Edition (yr2015), I cant seem to get the voice recognition system working. I have a button on the steering wheel to activate it but nothing happens as described in the manual. Can anyone help with this?

    I have Avensis from 08.2018 with Touch 2 with Go MM16. After successful upgrade to 6.12.0L bluetooth modul stop working (after message “waiting for bluetooth module”) screen is like https://static.cargurus.com/images/site/2017/06/15/10/17/pic-8042846670449638575-1600×1200.jpeg?_ga=2.240685381.797028482.1498360007-1145958947.1498360007 and bluetooth can not be enabled. What is really sad is behaviour of local toyota service – they told me that “I have damage bluetooth module because I have brake upgrade”. What is not true – I was waiting til the end, system finish upgrade, asked me to remove usb stick and then restart. Could you help ?

    Regarding this latest Toyota Touch with Go 2 system is it backwards compatible for a November 2014 registered Toyota Verso Excel 1.6 D-4D, which is equipped with a factory assembled Toyota Touch & Go 1 system?
    Is it technically possible to replace in this vehicle the factory fitted Toyota Touch & Go 1 system with a newest version Toyota Touch & Go 2 system?
    And if backwards compatible is it as simple as take out the Toyota Touch & Go 1 system in this vehicle and assemble a new Toyota Touch & Go 2 system or will the vehicle need some additional changes?

    Try to connect galaxy note 4 with mirrorlink.
    Phone says mirror link active. But there is nothing on toyota touch 2 screen. I’m using MM16 software version.

      Unfortunately it is not possible to do MirrorLink on the Touch multimedia systems. It is not a compatible feature as MirrorLink have not upgraded their service to be compatible to certain smartphones.

    I have succesfully managed to update Toyota Touch 2 go to MM16 software. However the key issue not being able to browse iPhone 6s music library persists. We have two iPhone 6s in the house and both have same issues. Is this a known issue? I have tried unpairing, removing device form toyota system and iPhone but no luck so far.

      1. I have checked this now. Music browsing should be supported with the iOS version on our phones (10.3). What else could be the issue?

          “The browsing feature is not supported on the vehicle at this moment in time. There is no confirmation of the 10.3 software version update on our system at the moment and iPhone 6s goes up to 10.2 software version.”

            Apple browsing worked on 10.2 and when Apple updated the phone software they dropped it again. Unfortunately, this is nothing to do with the car – it’s an Apple software choice. Pre version 9 browsing was never possible, it came in with 10, and now Apple have dropped it again. We hope this helps.

  12. The 2017 GT86 comes with Touch 2 but there are no ‘phone-off’ or ‘phone-pick up’ buttons on the steering wheel controls. Is it possible to answer/hang up calls using buttons on the steering wheel for this model? That would be expected but I can’t find a definite answer anywhere! Thanks

I have just bought a Yaris that was registered on 22/04/2016 but it has the old MM13 interface on the sat nav etc. When I go to my Toyota it says I have to pay £109 for 6.9.0L which I assume is the newest version of MM16.             Our technical team have advised the following: The car should have been sold with 6.7.0 on it. If you head to MyToyota it will say £109, but when you add to basket and go to checkout it should check the Device ID and then say its free. Please let us know if this works.

I have a 2016 Prius Excel and recently had a replacement Sat Nav unit fitted that was then upgraded to MM16 software – I cannot, however, make phone calls using Voice Recognition – I get a message telling me that “Touch 2 does not have Voice Recognition” – it’s as if the car doesn’t know which system I have fitted. Should the Dealer have done something when they re-installed the unit or do I have to do something.
    I’d be grateful for advice as the Dealer is quite a distance away.

  16. Hello, I have a 2016 Rav 4 (**** ***). Should I be eligible for the free upgrade? When I log onto the system it tries to charge me GBP109, for 2016 software for a 2016 car!! Also, the “free map of Europe” won’t upload into my car. It just says please wait for over an hour. Can you help please? Thanks.

        My software version is 4.4.1WL, and the MAP ID is 2014 V3. So, even if it is before the cutoff version, surely 2014 maps on a 2016 car is not right? For a car costing nearly 30k? Anything you can do, even as a goodwilll gesture will be appreciated.

    I have a Prius WJ16HNL. It has the MM13 interface, software version 4.5.OWL, map ID 2015 v2. Should I have to pay for a map upgrade, and what is the procedure please?

      Unfortunately this car was registered 02/03/2016, which means you will have to pay for a software update.
      If the vehicle was registered on 01/04/2016 or after, this would mean you already have/are entitled to MM16 multimedia. If you update the system, you will however receive 3 years of Map Care (free updates in this period).

    We recently bought a March 2016 Yaris Hybrid. It appears to be on MM13 – the unit shows version 4.5.0WL. I tried downloading the map update and it tells me it is loading a software update, but just gets stuck on the “Please Wait” screen. How long should the update take, or should we go to a dealer?
    Car reg is GX16 UCC.

            5. Download the newest map update.

            I thought you may be interested in the end of the saga. I took details of the version that you provided to the dealer who asked me to call back in a couple of days; I called and they had found the update and downloaded it onto a USB stick – unfortunately it would not load onto the system in the car; I had to re-book an appointment for them to fit a new Sat-nav “module” into the car – they assumed a new unit would have the latest software version but it didn’t – they then tried the USB stick again and it worked! I finally have the new version on the car so many thanks for your help.
            It would, of course, have been so much easier if the dealer had known about the update and put it on as part of the PDI.

  20. Can anyone confirm if they have mirror link working on version MM16? I have an S6 and it doesn’t work on version MM13. I am not happy I have to pay £109 to upgrade, so if the mirror link doesn’t work then there is no point. I can buy an aftermarket system with mirror link cheaper than the upgrade.

        1. Hi Mark,
          Updating a Touch 2 with Go system is possible via the “My Toyota” portal.
          You will have to click on “e-store” and purchase (purchase the map provided that your system is “Low” system. If it is a “High” system, i.e. Touch 2 with Go Plus, you will be covered under the 3-year Map Guarantee and therefore, will not have to pay for the map update.)the map update.
          If you decide to carry out the map update yourself, you will need a suitable USB memory stick as well as installing the “Toolbox” software to your PC.
          Alternatively, you can visit a Centre and purchase a Toyota Genuine USB stick that contains the maps, as well as the relevant Licence key card.
          It is not possible to carry out an update from MM13 to MM16 individually (i.e. without carrying out a map update).
          Therefore, you will have to purchase the latest map (which comes with the MM16 software).

            I cannot believe I have a sat nav system that is outdated and the media system doesn’t even do what I want it to do, for example use mirrorlink, use the apps such as the weather or fuel prices and yet I still have to pay £109 to “update” when I have spent thousands of pounds on a car.

            I think this is beyond a joke. I have spent countless hours trying to set this system up and I work in IT so I am not a novice when it comes to these things.

          3. Does anyone know if mirrorlink works at all on MM16? I have had a nightmare so far with the touch 2 with go. None of my apps work and mirrorlink does not work. The only thing I can do is play music and take calls via bluetooth. Does voice recognition come standard with this device because I don’t have an option to set it up? I have just bought the car and now I need to pay another £109 if I want to update to MM16.
            What are the added benefits? Why can’t Toyota give discounts to people who are stuck with this version?

    I have the same problem as the above posters having bought a new Yaris Hybrid in May (picked up in 31st May) with the MM13 software installed when it should have had the new one.

    I did call your helpline who said they’d get back to me but I haven’t heard anything after over 2 weeks.

    Could you please investigate it for me and get back to me as I think I should be entitled to the new update and the 3 year free updates.

  24. I have just downloaded the New Maps update 6.8.1WL on to USB stick.

    When attempting the update, the computer starts to apply it but just goes around in an endless loop back to the Confirm you wish to update screen. At each loop the update percentage never reduces and stays at 84.0% 25.5mins.

    I have wasted so much time going around this loop on the expectancy that something would actually be updated but to no avail.

    Please advise as this has cost me £109 and so far I have nothing to show for it.

      Thanks for your query. We have spoken with our technical team and they have advised checking that the USB stick is 8GB and formatted to FAT32. If this is standard for your USB, they have to advise heading to your local Toyota Centre. Your Toyota dealer should be able to assist in this area. We hope this helps.

      1. Just to confirm I have now managed to update the system and all appears to be working,

        it might be better though if the following information was provided with the original download and install instructions.

        Minimum USB stick capacity should be 12GB – in the end I used an external hard drive with a separate partition/volume for FAT32 restricted to 25GB.

        For USB devises less than 32GB capacity – Windows 10 will offer FAT32 as a formatting option

        For USB devises greater than 32GB – Windows 10 ,will only offer exFAT as a format option, a device using exFAT format does not appear to work with your software.

        To get the FAT32 format option on Windows 10 with a device greater than 32GB, the user must reduce the partition/volume size to below 32GB in order to format the device in FAT32.

  25. My Auris HSD Excel was registered on November 29th 2016 and has Touch 2 with Go .
    The menu design though is the MM13 type rather than MM16 .

    From the table the Auris should have the later software from April this year .

    Do I have the wrong version software installed or was my new car manufactured prior to April this year ?

            You should be operating on MM16 and this should have come as standard when you collected your car from the dealer. However, due to you having 4.5 0WH map updates are free. We would suggest taking your vehicle to your local Toyota Centre for an update.

            Our technical department have advised that if you purchased your Prius after April 2016 you should have 3 years free updates for the NAV/Multimedia system. Dealerships are advised to have updated systems to MM16 (the newest multimedia software) before handing over to customers. There should be a new update within the next few days which will be free to you- however, if you need this process made simpler your dealer would be able to help! Hope this helps! 🙂

It could be in the form of the application in split-screen view combining the navigation map with information about time and date. Such an application could, according to the setting, show the time in classic or digital style and the current date for all passengers in the car.

  28. When playing music from the USB, I really like to ask you to rebuild the player. When you have 300+ CDs on the USB stick the interface does not support that so well.

    What I’m missing mostly:
    A) Play all songs from one artist / band, now you play only one album.
    B) Start playing the album directly from the album list without going to sing list, now you need to select the first song from the list until it start playing. Why?
    C) Ad-hoc playlist: I have 700 km, how great it would be that I can select 10 albums to play at once. That is more safety as well!
    D) Can I have a random play from selected albums or from all?
