The Dakar 2015 is a gruelling 5000-mile, high-speed, two-week race across tough desert and mountain terrain in Argentina, Bolivia and Chile. It started on January 4 in Buenos Aires and finishes back in the same city on January 17.
You can find the latest standings of the rally on the Toyota Global site.
Each day is split up into liaison sections and special stages; it is on the special stages where the event is won and lost as competitors pick their way through sandy dunes and rocky tracks at speeds of well over 100mph.
And the special stages are huge – some are nearly 300 miles long. It’s a tough event and one that Toyota vehicles have competed in since the Dakar’s inception in 1979, enhancing the cars’ reputation for strength and reliability.
For Dakar 2015, about a third of the competitors sit behind the wheel of a Toyota – either a Hilux or a Land Cruiser. These vehicles will be crossing some spectacular scenery which provides wonderful opportunities for dramatic photographs.
We will be updating this post with the best pictures from the event, and some video highlights as the rally progresses. So bookmark this page and come back regularly for the latest updates.
