Toyota in the US mashed up the incredible words of Muhammad Ali with a video telling the story of the inspirational athlete Amy Purdy for its TV advert that was shown during the first quarter of the Super Bowl.
The soundtrack features Ali’s famous ‘How great I am’ speech. Ali gave this speech ahead of famous ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ fight with George Foreman in 1974. This is what he says:
I’ve wrestled with an alligator,
I’ve tussled with a whale.
I done handcuffed lightning
And throw thunder in jail.
Only last week, I murdered a rock,
Injured a stone, hospitalised a brick.
I’m so mean, I make medicine sick.
All of you chumps are gonna bow, when I whoop him.
All of ya! I know you got him,
I know you got him picked…But the man’s in trouble.
I am gonna show YOU how GREAT I AM!
Set to Ali’s speech is Paralympic medalist Amy Purdy’s bold lifestyle that includes running, snowboarding and ballroom dancing.
“To say I’m honored to be in this spot airing during the game would be an understatement,” said Purdy. “All my life I’ve been faced with choices, and I’ve been determined to be bold through every one of them.
“I have a great relationship with Toyota, and to be in an ad that encourages others to persevere and be bold in their own lives is something that is hard to accurately put into words.”
