Toyota Touch & Go: How to pair your phone

Toyota Touch & Go multimedia system allows you to connect your car to your smartphone and access a host of features including hands-free calling and music streaming.

But just how easy is to pair your phone? In this post, and in the video above, we show you just that.

Pairing a device is simple. Whether you are using Toyota Touch or Toyota Touch & Go, the process is exactly the same.

Most mobiles these days have Bluetooth, but it’s worth checking which of the Toyota Touch or Touch & Go features are compatible with your particular phone before you begin. There’s a full list available on

Press SET-UP
Make sure Bluetooth is ON
Check your phone is in Discover Mode/Discoverable
And when the system finds your phone, select it from the list
It will then ask you to accept the connection

If you want to change any of the settings
Press SET-UP
And then choose your device.

Touch & Go users can also connect to the internet. By choosing this option you are allowing your phone to be used as a modem, so you can make use of connected services.

Accept notification
Select your network provider

It’s a one-time set-up process for each mobile and you can have up to four devices connected at the same time.

  1. Hi Toyota

    I own a 2012 Avensis with a Touch & Go unit.

    The unit is not pairing with my phone. I cannot access the Bluetooth menu. Whenever I press ‘mode’ on my steering wheel, my head unit goes into a boot loop.

    I have also tried to locate the Device ID, but when I press Setup>General, it only displays Language, Beep and Delete personal data. It is not allowing me to scroll down to see if there is a ‘System Information’ option available to get the Device ID.

    USB is only connecting (charging) intermittently when I plug in my phone through the USB port inside the centre console.

    I have taken it to my dealer who doesn’t know what to do with it. Please help.

    Usually when i start my aygo my phone will instantly connect to the car via bluetooth. Sometimes it wont connect at all. I have to unpair the phone from the system and switch off the engine, then SOMETIMES i can pair again when i start the car. I cant recreate the problem since obviously the cars ai has become self aware and wont connect if it doesnt want to. Is there a fix? Its not the phone, ive tried other devices and the same problem occurs.

    Tldr; car connects through bluetooth if it feels like it.

        Again I say, it is not the phone. I’ve tried a HTC, a Samsung and even someone elses LG. I’ve also tried a Sony mp3 player. Sometimes they have been fine for a few days in a row, but same problem comes back. If the car decides it doesn’t want to pair to whatever device, it just won’t. Sometimes pairing and re-pairing won’t fix it, but if i try again in 20 minutes time it will on the first try.

  3. Hi Toyota. I have a Touch & Go system for my 63 plate Yaris. My Samsung S4 paired with the system via Bluetooth perfectly. I’ve recently upgraded my phone to a Samsung S8 – I can still pair for music, however, when I make a call or receive a call the other party can hear me, but I can’t hear them. I’ve tried unpairing/re-pairing but without any success. Any suggestions?

    I have a japanese imported 2009 toyota estima ahr20 hybrid and have bought a toyota touch and go 2 but am having difficulty finding the cables as the connectors are different in the car, do you have a kit to connect old toyota cars to the new system, everything works but no sound a message shows stating audio is off. i would really appreciate some help.

      Thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t be able to support with this. This is because we can supply accessory installation guides for the Touch 2 unit, but only for UK specification vehicles.

  5. Hello, I have a ZTE Axon mini, i can pair it and it works for calls and music through the bluetooth but the controls on the steering wheel don’t work (apart from the volume).

    I have problem with the bluetooth connection. When I first paired my mobile it was ok but after 10 days when I try to use it the only thing I get on the screen is a sign stated to wait and a hard disc image spining around.

      Thank you for your comment. You should be able to select the Bluetooth option, Bluetooth Setup and then select search for Bluetooth devices. You should have your Bluetooth switched on from your smartphone to be able to connect to your device.             Step 1: Press the telephone button and select ‘Pair Phone’ by using the TUNE.FILE
            Step 2: Register a phone name by either of the following methods – A. Select ‘Record Name’ by using TUNE.FILE, and say a name to be registered. B. Press the ‘Face with speech waves from mouth’ button and say a name to be registered.
            Step 3: Select ‘Confirm’ by using TUNE.FILE
            Step 4: A passkey is displayed, and input the passkey into the cellular phone.

            Sorry for the delayed response. Our Multimedia team would advise trying a hard factory reset and attempt to pair the phones again. However, this particular smartphone does not appear to be listed as one of the compatible phones for this multimedia system. Hope this helps.

          2. Hi, what I done first was deleted Huawei from Toyota Bluetooth. I have deleted old Samsung device as well. After that I have done pairing again for Huawai .When Toyota listed my phone I pressed connect and this time it was working ok. I hope it helps.

    I have recently changed my phone to a motorola and it will connect fine but I cannot hear the person on the other line. Its definetely a problem with motorola phones as I have paired it with a HTC and a iphone and the bluetooth is working fine in my car with those models. Any ideas on what I could do to try and fix it? Thanks Michelle

      We’re sorry to hear you’re having problems with your system. This does sounds like a Motorola issue and all we could suggest would be popping in to your local dealer to discuss this with them. They may be able to advise further!

  11. Hi. I have a Toyota Yaris sr 2011. My Bluetooth connection works fine when I make a call but there seems to be a problem receiving calls. There’s a ring but when I press answer on the screen I’m left with a silence. Can you help..?

  12. Is there a way with the Touch 2 and Go system to have contacts displayed first name then surname instead of surname then first name?

For me this is a really big problem, as a lot of friends in my community share the same last name. (Imagine a lot of Smiths in your phone book for example!)

    I am currently renting a Yaris 2015. I paired my IPhone 5 and connected for music. Everything worked great!

    Then to my horror Ive discovered that all my contacts have been copied over to the Yaris’s system but removed from my I Phone. They are still on the Yaris!


    How do I get them back???

      1. Hopeless support. I see you more or less give this as a stock answer to all queries. I am renting the car!. I tried resetting my IPod but no idea on the logic as to how resetting would retrieve my lost contacts!! It obviously didnt work. My question remains the same – how do I get my contacts from my Yaris to my IPhone (a mutual sync).

  14. How can I disable the message that asks if I want to connect to the Internet? This message appears every time I start driving and I don’t want to connect to the Internet at all.

    I’ve tried disabling via the settings menu but an internet account just keeps reappearing.

    1. Hi Ricky. Apologies for the time it’s taken to get back to you, we had to refer this to our technical team. You can’t do this from the car. The car is seeing that the phone has its WiFi hotspot turned on, so automatically asks if you wish to connect. To fix this, make sure your WiFi hotspot is turned off on your phone. Depending on your phone’s operating system (iOS or Android, for example) the phone could automatically be attempting to share its internet connection when you pair with your car. To test this, unpair the phone from the car and delete the car’s profile from your Bluetooth settings. When you re-pair, it should ask what you want to share with the car. Hope this helps Ricky, give us a shout if it’s not solved the issue, though.

        This even happens when phone is switched off and bluetooth in car is disabled.

        1. Hi Ricky. What is the actual message that is displayed on the screen? There should be a setting in the connections menu that enables you to turn off auto-connect – if you start the car, turn auto-connect off and then turn off the car, does this fix the issue? Thanks.

  15. I can pair my phone (sony Z2) with bluetooth for media and phone calls, but it cannot connect for internet, how do I solve this?

We’ll need to check phone compatibility for you, please could we have the name of your Toyota model and it’s year of production (for example: reg is a 14 plate) along with the name of the multimedia unit – Toyota Touch (without Sat Nav) Toyota Touch and G0 (with SatNav).

  16. Hi can some please help me with connecting to a Nokia 301 to a 2015 Yaris? I can pair ok, and I can connect ok, but as soon as I turn the ignition off and on again, I end up only being able to connect for music, not phone. When I enter the menus to connect for phone too, I get a message saying unable to connect every time. The only way I can connect for phone again is to delete the paired device and start all over again. Highly frustrating. I have tried an iPhone and everything works as normal. It just won’t work properly with my Nokia 301. Any ideas? Are there compatibility issues with this phone?

  17. Help please; I’ve had 3 year old Yaris for 2 wks & phone was paired fine. That disappeared on Fri & I can’t work out how to re set it. Also, Touch screen radio has gone! Any ideas? m

      Press SET-UP

  18. hi Martin my wife has just bought a uses 2012 yaris the phone was connected by dealer and worked fine for few days then she lost connection. We can’t locate screen which has ‘bluetooth on’ button can you help please. Also she’s lost the nice radio ‘touch station screen’ and now has to tune for stations manually. Any advice please.

      For your phone, you can use the following instructions,
      Press SET-UP
      Then BLUETOOTH
      Make sure Bluetooth is ON
      Check your phone is in Discover Mode/Discoverable
      And when the system finds your phone, select it from the list
      It will then ask you to accept the connection.
      With regard to the radio if you press the Presets button on the top of the screen then it should take you back to the stations already tuned. Hope this helps and let us know how you get on.

    I paired my Nokia Lumia with my 2012 Auris for phone, but when I paired it for music I lost the phone connection; I paired it again for phone and lost the music. Is there a way to Bluetooth my phone for both music and phone?

    1. Hi Keith. When connecting your phone via bluetooth it should automatically select both phone and music. If you press setup, bluetooth then paired device list you should be able to select which functions you want to use. If you are still having problems try completely deleting the pairing from the car and phone and re-pairing as demonstrated in the video. Let us know if that doesn’t work. Thanks.

  20. My Medion P4502 smart phone will pair with my Touch & Go (2014 Avensis) but connection fails every time. This phone pairs and connects to other cars and bluetooth devices. Also my previous phone Sony Xperia Ray paired and connected to my Avensis no problem. The compatabilty listing does not show a picture of my device nor mention my phone. Can you help ?

      Thanks for your post.
      We have run your query past our technical team. They have advised that Medion phones are not on the compatibility list so while they cannot confirm if the phone should work or not, the loss of pairing may well be due to a compatibility issue. They have recommended that you delete the Bluetooth pairing out of the phone and car, either remove the battery from the phone (if possible) or carry out a full reset. Then re-pair the phone to the car. This may help resolve but let us know how you get on.

          Thank you for your post. We have spoken with our technical team who have rechecked this issue and they have advised that Medion phones are not on the compatibility list. Therefore we advise deleting the Bluetooth pairing out of both the phone and car, and then repair this.

  21. hi managed to pair my moto g to auris handsfree but cant sync contacts. checked list of phones and it says compatiable phone

  22. Since I changed phone from iPhone 4s to HTC one m8 iv noticed I can no longer browse songs on the head unit. Also I can’t find any apps that work with the mirror link, can anyone tell me where I’m going wrong?

Further to my query already published on the blog – it seems to be fixed at last, in the last few days Apple released os 8.1.1 it said it was for some bug fixes and 4s issues, I re-paired the phone, with personal hotspot turned on- on the phone, I can now Google through the ‘advanced’ sat nav tab

I have a Yaris with touch and go, all has been fine with the sat nav – connected to an IPhone 4s up until recently I have been able to do an advance search via Google on the touch and go however when I now try I get a ‘connection failed’ error, the only changes made has been to update to latest iPhone operating system 8.?
    I have unpaired and re-paired the phone with no success – advice please.

      Thanks for your post and sorry to read of the problem with the phone operation in your car. It is going to be very difficult for us to reply conclusively here. The reason is because this must be down to the upgrade on your phone as operation was fine prior to this. The system in your car has not changed. We will not be aware of what is involved in the phone software upgrade and can only suggest contacting your phone provider regarding this. Usually our technical advice in these circumstances would be to un-pair and re-pair the phone but we note this has not been successful for you.
      Sorry that we do not have an answer at this stage but we are monitoring this situation with our technical team. They did look at your query and have been made aware of other users cars behaving erratically since the upgrade. However, do stay tuned to our Blog because if we do learn of any resolution then we will be sure to post this.

  26. I want to have my Nokia Lumia 930 connect to my Toyota Touch and Go for calls only. This video shows me how to disconnect for audio and yes this works, but I have to do this EVERY TIME I climb in the car. I want to disconnect permanently for audio so I am connected for calls only at all times. How do I do this?

      We have checked this with our technical team who have confirmed the following, in the car go to the settings menu then choose -> bluetooth -> paired devices -> choose device -> disconnect for audio.

            I have a Rav 4 Invincible 2013 and an iPhone 5s.
            I have connected my iPhone and the media system in the car autoplays the streamed music from my phone whenever I start the car even if I last had the audio system off or was listening to another source such as DAB.
            I have deleted the pairing and deleted the paining on the phone but the vehicle seems to keep it in memory as when I reconnect so I can choose not to select “Connect for music” it already seems to know the phone and connects anyway. I even, after deleting the phone, deleted all personal data but it still reconnected the music when I reconnected the phone.
            The BT music always plays and the only way I can stop it is to either fiddle with the radio each time I start the car or not use BT at all, help!

  27. Trying to get Nokia 108 to connect with the Touch & Go in 64reg Prius T Spirit. Each shows a connection has been made but still fails to work. Cannot get the Compatibity List to check if this phone is suitable.

  29. Cannot pair new mobile phone to vehicle’s Bluetooth.
    I have a Toyota Prius (bought March 2012) with built-in Touch and Go for satnav.
    I now cannot pair my new mobile phone Motorola Moto G. Did the obvious – find Bluetooth devices and got a list of other people’s phones but not mine.
    Bluetooth is set to “On” on the phone. Is there something I am not doing ?
    If I dont succeed should I take it into the dealer ?

      Have run this past our tech team who have recommended to double check the phone compatibility list and for ease you check here.
      The other option is to check for a setting within the phone that makes it visible for a Blue tooth search. This is setting which provides the ability to be hidden or visible to other devices.

Had the misfortune to try and find a contact on my touch and go system which has two numbers for everyone, and which I find just unbelievable that my HTC phone list contacts with first name then surname , but Toyota decided the customers must use the system the devised so the list is completely the reverse I.E MB Smith , Emergencies RAF Odiham, is RAF Odiham Emergencies, How can this be programmed to work like normal phones

  31. Have just returned from Germany, lost my way due to satnav not being installed, when reinstalled its self again lost volume on my Bluetooth connection for Music only works on full volume not good when you get traffic reports blows you ear drums any thought why

      Sorry to hear you’re experiencing difficulties with the satnav and bluetooth connectivity. We recommend deleting and then repairing your phone to the multi-media system. Your local Toyota dealer will be able to diagnose any problems with your navigation system.
