We are excited to announce that 11-year-old Tess Hudson has been selected as a finalist in the world Dream Car Art Contest, Toyota’s annual competition which embraces the creativity of children by challenging them to design their ideal car for the future.
Tess Hudson, from Stockport, ranked first in her age category in the UK’s national awards ceremony. Her artwork, called Deep Freeze, has earned her and her family a trip to Japan.
Explaining the thinking behind her Dream Car, Tess said: “The car swims around the ocean, acting like an ice pack for the Earth. It forms ice in the water and lowers ocean temperatures. This will help stop bleaching of the coral reefs and keep the ice from melting at the North and South poles, keeping the oceans healthy for future generations.”
Tess’s brilliant idea was selected from over 650,000 entries from 76 different countries by the judges of the world contest panel. As one of the finalists, Tess will be in the running for either Gold, Silver, Bronze or an Encouragement Award in her age category. In order to receive her award, Tess has been invited to Japan to attend the Award Ceremony in August.
Tess will fly to Japan in August with her family for a five-day trip, which will include a tour of the Toyota factory in Tokyo, the awards ceremony and a Japanese Cultural Experience. Tess will also have the opportunity to meet contestants from around the world to take part in activities together and make new friends. The results of the World Award Ceremony will be revealed on 29 August.
The public are able to vote for their favourite in the ‘Makes Me Smile!’ award. This award will also be presented at the 12th Toyota Dream Car Art Contest World Contest. You can vote via the Makes Me Smile! Award Online Voting website.
Over 800 entries were submitted by children from all over the UK this year. Those who missed out will have another opportunity to take part in the Dream Car Art Contest when next year’s competition launches later this year. More details about this will be revealed in October.
