Have you ever thought about compiling a list of the greatest Toyota models? Popular Mechanics has done just that. Something of an institution in the United States, Popular mechanics was first published in 1902. The enduringly popular publication has cherry-picked its 15 greatest Toyota models, and though it’s US-centric, the article features some of our most globally recognized cars.
The list highlights how eclectic the range of cars that Toyota has produced in its near 80 year history is, featuring everything from segment legends such as the Land Cruiser FJ40 of 1960 and top-sellers Corolla and Camry.
Beloved sports cars such as MR2, Corolla GT Coupé (AE86) and the blistering Supra Turbo of 1993, which packed 326bhp and was capable of 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds, feature on the list too. US-only models such as the Tundra pick-up and the NASCAR Camry, which driver Kyle Busch drove to victory in the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 9 2008, round things off.
Popular Mechanics appeared to find choosing just 15 great Toyotas quite a task, writing: “…distilling the 15 greatest ’Yotas of all time should be child’s play, right? So we thought.”
