Toyota Touch 2: how to pair your phone for calls, music and internet

In this post, we explain how to pair your phone with Toyota’s Touch 2 multimedia system, and how it can then be used to make calls, stream music and access the internet.

The following video shows you how to do it, or you can follow the step-by-step instructions below.

Pairing your phone or mobile device

Pairing your mobile device to the Toyota Touch 2 multimedia or Touch 2 with Go navigation system is a quick and easy process.

First, make sure that your phone’s Bluetooth is switched on and the device is discoverable.

Now go to the ‘SET UP’ menu on your device and press the ‘CONNECTIVITY’ button.

Then press ‘BLUETOOTH’, and ‘SEARCH DEVICE’.

When your telephone is displayed on the Touch 2 system, select it and agree to connect on your handset. Some phones may require a passkey to be entered – simply follow the instructions on your phone’s screen.

Well done – your phone is now paired with your device for hands-free calling and as a source for streaming music.

Touch 2: How to connect to the internet

Connecting to the internet

To pair your phone for internet connection, first make sure that your phone’s ‘Personal Hot Spot’ is enabled.

Now return to the ‘SETUP’ page on your Toyota Touch 2 with Go navigation system, where you will see your phone listed.

Select your phone’s name and that’s it – your Touch 2 system is now successfully connected to the internet.

Many of the functions and content of your phone are now at your disposal. You can use your Touch 2 system to access your device’s music, browse contacts, make hands-free calls, and download apps from the MyToyota e-store. You can also purchase and download apps for your Touch 2 system online at MyToyota – find out more in our introduction to the MyToyota portal.

  1. AFAIK hotspot isn’t needed. You need to switch on Bluetooth tethering on your phone for it to work. At least, that is how it works on my 2019 Toyota Yaris hybrid.

  2. Hi. I have a 2016 Auris TS with the Toyota touch and go 2. When I try to register my multimedia system with toyota, it says the ID entered is incorrect. I’m positive I’m looking at the correct ID, as I followed the steps provided by Toyota.

  4. Hi. Just got my Toyota RAV4 icon tech hybrid, managed to pair moto g6 phone by Bluetooth, but it won’t accept internet connection. My previous Auris allowed wi-fi connection too. Do I need to change some settings ??

    1. I think the information above is incorrect. I got it to work by changing to tethering setting on my phone to allow devices connected via bluetooth to share my phones internet connection.

      Thanks for getting in touch. To use Mirrorlink you need to download compatible Mirrorlink applications on to you smartphone from the app store and connect via USB to the USB port entry.           Thanks for getting in touch. This is a pre-warning message letting you know you maybe charged to use this particular service/feature.
          The costs of using the internet depends on your network provider. If you are using PAYG (Pay as you go) then the charges applied from the network provider will be the same. However, if you have a pay monthly with a data plan such as 6GB or unlimited, you will not be charged as there is data on you plan.

  10. Hi –

    I have a 14 plate Yaris. We’ve connected a couple of different phones by Bluetooth and all work for music BUT we can’t use Handsfree for calls.

    When a call comes in the only way we can answer is to transfer to the handset. Same with making a call – we can dial from the car but nothing comes through the speakers and have to use the handset again.

    I’ve tried disconnecting the device and reconnecting as you mention in the manual. No change though! Can you help!


  11. Hi, I have a 67 reg Toyota Yaris Hybrid with Touch 2 but not Go. As a result it is not possible to determine version number of system. Can I confirm though that it is not compatible with Mirrorlink 2.1.a as installed on my Sony Z5 compact?

    Q2. Is it possible to have DAB or any other source playing whilst also having audio from bluetooth device. I think not. Ideally I would like to play radio which then reduces in volumes if I have audio from my mobile device (for example Sat Nav directions).

  12. Hi, I have a 2015 Toyota Yaris and have just upgraded my old Samsung phone to a new Samsung A5. The old phoned paired with the phone without any problem but the car will not pair with my new phone. My new phone is set up for pairing but it just will not connect. My friend has also tried to pair her phone to the car but it won’t recognise that either. It would seem that the problem is with the car not the phones. Any ideas?

Hi,I have a problem because in my wifes C.H.R. it automatically sends all email from my phone to the car display as they are received via bluetooth.this then shows all emails as read even though I haven’t read them meaning I have missed important emails thinking they had already been read when checking them on a pc. how can I stop emails automatically being sent to the car display? I still want to be connected to the car via Bluetooth.thanks

      Sorry for the delay. We’d advise removing the pairings from the phone and multimedia system. Then a message should prompt the option to send messages/emails to the multimedia system in the smartphone. You would have to refuse this option. Hope this helps.

  14. Hi I have a 66 landcruiser,the phone connects to Bluetooth in the car no problem but I then don’t receive any alerts from text messages etc?the phone works fine on handsfree but for some reason I don’t get a alert if I get a message or what’s app?

      Sorry for the delay.
      The car won’t be able to receive Whatsapp messages as this application is not used in our multimedia systems.
      Receiving alerts etc. depends on the smartphone you are using, iPhones are not able to send, create messages. However, they are capable to receiving messages.
      Text messages should be able to be notified also.
      We’d advise re-pairing the devices again, consider a hard factory reset on the smartphone also and repair again.

    I have a Toyota Prius+ Estate NAV. I have several members of the family trying to link their phones via Bluetooth but it seems like there is a limitation of four devices only at any one time. So we have to delete other devices to connect another one. Is there are way to remove this limitation and enable more devices to be linked to the car without having to delete existing ones?

    Also to change to one of the devices in the list I cannot do this in the car, I need to turn Bluetooth off in the phone currently connected so we can select a different one from the list. Is there a way of changing from one device to another without having to turn Bluetooth off?

      Thank you for your comment. We’re sorry to say there are no ways of removing the limitation of devises to your vehicle. Secondly, you’re unable to disconnect a device unless you disconnect the Bluetooth from either the car or from the phone. One phone cannot push off another connection, to connect to the vehicle’s multimedia system. Sorry for the inconvenience. Hope this helps.

          Thank you for your comment. You can only have one device active at a time. To swap to the other device, turn off the Bluetooth connection from that device and the other phone should connect automatically. Hope this helps.

  16. My 2014 Auris keeps trying to connect to the internet when turning on the car. I set “automatic internet connection” to off but that doesn’t change anything.

Every time I start the system it tells me there is no internet connection and I am asked if I want connect.   17. Hi. Just got my Toyota Yaris Hybrid and I’m thrilled. Yay. But I have a weird problem. My iPhone perfectly connects to the Touch 2 system so I can stream my music, but it disconnects every time I plug my iPhone to the integrated charcher. Why is that? Hope you can help me. Martin

      Thanks for getting in touch and we hope you’re enjoying your Yaris. When connecting your phone via USB, the car will automatically attempt to play music through this connection (regardless of if it’s already connected via Bluetooth). We would have to recommend manually switching back to Bluetooth connection once you’ve connected your USB. If there is an ongoing issue and it keeps switching back, we would recommend speaking with your local Toyota Centre. Many thanks.

  18. I bought a Hybrid Rav4 2017 SOL with Touch 2 – I am not able to scroll down through my contacts from the steering wheel or control the phone in any way except answer and hang up. Also the Voice control feature isn’t working. I was able to scroll and select different contacts in my Rav 4 2014 Luna. I am using an iPhone 7. Is this right or is there a problem with my steering wheel

  19. Hello, I just got a new corolla with touch 2.
    I can’t connect it to the Internet even though I enabled the hot spot and the Bluetooth tethering. My phone is a Samsung j7 2016. The option that is shown in the video “connect to the Internet” doesn’t even appear. Other than that I have no problem with pairing it for music and calls.

  20. I’ve had the same problem connecting to the internet in my new Yaris Icon but found the solution. My Touch 2 connected to Bluetooth for audio without a problem but wouldn’t connect to the internet even with my mobile hotspot turned on. The solution was to go to my tethering settings on the phone and to turn on Bluetooth tethering. Now my Touch 2 connects even with the mobile hotspot turned off. I then had an issue connecting to the Toyota Online services but after trying without success to connect, I found an email had been sent asking me to login to my My Toyota account. I did this and was then prompted to register my infotainment device. Once this was done I had full access to everything. I hope this helps others who are struggling.

    My Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) can be connected with the Touch and Go 2, but can not shared internet connection. By contrast, a Galaxy J7 (2016), can do it. Both are using Android 6.0.1 software.

  22. Hello my touch 2 go worked great with my old iphone 4 showing browse menu for music.
    My new iPhone 6s however will not show browse menu for music library on the touch 2 go.

  23. I just signed for a demo Rav-4 hybrid it has Touch 2 but not Navigation GO. Is there some way to connect my phone to the multimedia system to get google maps so I can find my way around? As we drove away from the Toyota dealer we realised we had not checked on this and he confirmed by phone to us that the car is not equipped with GO. To add on GO (here in Switzerland where I live) it will cost around 790£! I am so upset with myself but am hoping to find some way to just navigate without all the bells and whistles of a proper navigation system. Roaming costs for my phone are very expensive here so I want to know if I can connect to the internet on the Touch 2 system to access google maps and not incur roaming costs?   24. hi i just bought a toyota auris 2015 design touring sports i can connect and play music via bluetooth and make calls and access my phone contacts but i cannot do mirror link with my samsung galaxy s7 edge.
    when i connect my phone to the car, on my phone it shows ‘connected to mirror link’ but nothing shows up on the car screen and my phone screen goes blank. i dont know if its compateble or not.
    anyone else having that problem or knows anything about it ?

  25. I just bought a used Toyota yaris of 2012. I was told it carried Toyota touch 2 and go but I didn’t check it further. Now I just tried to pair my phone but when I press on the Bluetooth option on the screw nothing happens, the same if I press in maps nav button. I don’t know what exactly goes wrong. I also tried to find my navi’s ID but there is not even the choice system information in my menu. Is there anybody who has an idea that may gel me??

  26. Hi all I have a brand new aventis 2016, and can I just say this is by far the worst sat-nav I have come across. I eventually got it to work with my iPhone 6s but even then you have to wait for it to connect to Bluetooth then wifi. Who ever decide in this day and age that this was the way forward should leave the technology department, how I miss my TomTom.

    That aside can anyone please help me. My touch and go2 has decided that it will go,down any C road or dirt track that it can find. I have checked all the very limited setting I can find, to no avail, it just try’s to avoid any major road. I have now had to return to using the maps on my iPhone. It is so bad to be 100% honest if I had known it was so bad I would not have bought this otherwise really good car

      Thanks for your post. There are a few things you can check, although we would advise checking the My Toyota website to download the Owner’s Manual for the Navigation system for full details.
      Firstly, have you checked the “Route options” screen, as route criteria can be set in here (avoid toll roads, motorways etc.). It will also show you alternative routes. This could solve your issue.
      Secondly, have you pressed the settings button when starting a route, this will give you an option to view the “Turn list” and you can then change different segments of the selected route or select a detour. Traffic avoidance may also take you a different route as previously set.
      Regarding the iPhone issue, have you signed up to My Toyota and registered your device? You can select a route using this and so long as Bluetooth on the phone is switched on, and Bluetooth tethering, it should allow you to connect to the internet and download routes. You can set it up on Touch 2, so that you do not need to keep entering a user name and password too.
      We would have to advise contacting your local dealer for any further information as they will be able to show you how it works and hopefully solve the issues you’re experiencing. Alternatively, the owner’s manual has all the information you should need. Hope this helps! Many thanks.

I have tried the setting but as you say the options are avoid toll roads freeways ferry’s and I think one other, not really very productive when other systems let you chose, stick to a roads etc . I must say I haven’t looked at the turn list to see the exact route as I am used to the other system choosing a sensible route, and as I use the sat nav for places I haven’t visited I wouldn’t know what type of road it was , only yesterday my touch and go 2 decided I should turn now a route with a massive sign saying UNSUITABLE FOR MOTOR VECHICLES. I personally just thought we had got passed the stage of sat nav’s telling us to drive of piers or down unsuitable roads. I am sorry if this sounds complaining as I love the car in every other way. I just need sat nav and wish the one provided worked efficiently

        Thanks for getting back to us. We are sorry to hear that you’re having these problems. We can also recommend (if you require) logging these issues with You will be able to submit a change, Navteq (who supply our maps) will then drive the route and plan it for a future update. However, it takes 18 months to plot/plan and roads are done on a priority basis. If you do log your issue, once something is fixed/mapped you will get a notification which means it will be on an update soon.   27. Hello, just bought a brand new yaris with touch 2 with go, ive got sony z5 compact, i can connect the phone and music with bluetooth, but not internet, it kept saying connection had failed. What’s wrong? Is it my phone or the car? I tried with my sony z2 as well, still failed. Please help

  28. I have a 2016 Prius with Touch 2 with Go Sat Nav.My problem is when I try to stream music from Spotify on my iPhone 6s via Bluetooth I get no sound.Screen shows song title,artist ,album and album cover.I can change tracks etc. but no sound .

  31. Is it possible to pair Touch2 and Go with 2 different mobiles – and if “Yes” how does it work?

      Thank you for your post. We have spoken with our technical team and it is possible to pair 2 phones, however the car will only talk to 1 phone.
      i.e. you have phones A & B
      Phone A can be paired for Phone
      Phone B for Music and Internet
      You cannot pair phones A&B for phone at the same time.

    I have an issue in my stereo system.
    I organized my music on USB stick by folders, but I can’t see it this way on the stereo system. All the files appear in a different order.
    Why can’t I see it by folders? Many of the names appear as gibberish.
    I there any update that could be done to add “Hebrew” language?

  33. 2016 auris will not connect to Samsung S6 with 6.0.1 software, either by bluetooth or USB. On bluetoothouch touch system keeps rebooting. Be warned.

      Thank you for your post. We have spoken with our technical team and they have advised to visit your local Toyota Dealer asking them to try and pair the phone in an identical Auris. Assuming that your Auris has Touch 2 system, it has been tested and has been found to be compatible with Samsung Galaxy S6 running on version 5.0.2. However, it seems that software version 6.0.1 has not been tested yet. Your Local Toyota Dealer will be able to perform this simple test and this will reveal if there is an issue with the vehicle, or if it is a compatibility issue with the Galaxy S6 running on version 6.0.1.           Thanks for your post. The test we were referring to was simply checking the connection between the phone and the multimedia system within the car. Our technical team have advised to check that your phone is compatible with the system in your vehicle, follow this link:

          This site should tell you if your phone will connect. If your phone is not listed, it may be that the specific phone model has not been tested, however does not necessarily mean it won’t work. Phones are constantly being released after the vehicles, with constant Android, iOS updates it can make it difficult for us to guarantee it will work without testing first.   34. I have a touch 2 with go in 2015 avensis and an iphone 5s. The phone works fine when bluetoothed but I cannot seem to sync all of my contacts – there are always people missing on the car contacts list. I have tried deleting the phone and re-pairing several times and sometimes everyone from letter N onwards is missing and other times it appears everyone to letter W is there but apparently random individuals in between are missing. I have worked out that this difference is down to whether i have stored contacts by last name or first name on the phone, but each time contacts are missing. Is there a limit on the number of contacts which can be imported? I had no such problems on the previous
    2012 avensis with the same phone.

      1. I am afraid that made no difference. I am still missing all contacts from the letter N onwards.
        Also, it appears that contacts are only listed by last name not by first as I would prefer.
        Overall I would echo other comments in that I am not impressed with the Touch 2 with Go Nav. I honestly can’t see how it is an improvement over the old system.

    2. This is a problem they are aware of, but have refused to put in a fix, the sat nav models are the only ones affected. The module in it turns off the Bluetooth function

  36. Recently had a map upgrade and since then I am unable to get my phone ringtone it says not available. I wouldn’t have thought it should have made a difference. Sometimes also unable to answer a call. Toughandgo GT86

      Thank you for your post. We have spoken with our technical department for you and they have advised firstly, deleting your device from the paired devices and repairing this to the car. Secondly, they have advised resetting your phone. Hope this helps and if you have any other queries please let us know.

  37. My LGG2 phone was paired with my versa and now it won’t work after 2 years. I unpaired the phone and now it says “no device found” when I try to pair. What am I doing wrong?

    1. Morning Cathy, is your car a 2013 registered model? The phone may have a ‘discoverable’ mode which you need to engage while pairing. Let us know if this doesn’t work.

    i´m from germany (soory for my bad english)
    I bought an Auris Cool Edition from 10/2014
    with the standard radio without bluetooth an touch.
    now I have bought a touch 2 no go and erverything´s going so far.
    only when I want to connect my iPhone via Bluetooth the radio writes waiting for Bluetooth.

  39. How do I get contact pictures to display on touch 2 from my iPhone 5s my contacts transferred over but no photos

    3. Hi Susan. Have you recently updated your iPhone’s OS version? This could have caused a compatibility issue. Could you try un-pairing your phone, removing its profile from your Touch 2 system, and then upload the contact details again? Thanks.

      1. Thanks Michael tried with no luck I assume that contact images can be displayed I seem to remember reading that somewhere. Since trying to re pair them I upgraded my phone operating system then tried again with no luck

  40. I have a 2015 Avensis and use a Blackberry 9720 mobile. Pairing of the two on the Touch2 and Go has not been a problem. However yesterday connectivity became an issue. When driving following a call the phone became “disconnected” as when receiving an incoming call it was the phone that was ringing and I was not able to answer using the hands free. Even when accepting the call via the phone the call did not come through as the phone said I was still connected via bluetooth and so did Touch 2. As I couldn’t take call , I was driving, I tried to ring the caller back but Touch 2 would not let me as it was “searching for contacts”. Reconnecting was not possible as the phone was already connected according to both phone and touch 2. The only way was to turn off the ignition.
    Any comment on this problem or a possible solution would be welcome.

    1. Hi Andrew. Apologies for the delay in replying. As a start, have you tried unpairing the phone from the Touch 2 and Go system (that is, completely removing it and then setting it up again as if for the first time?). This tends to fix a lot of Bluetooth issues when the connection goes funny. Let us know if this helps at all. Thanks.

    I’ve bought a RAV4 beg of 2014 with a Touch&Go 2.
    I can pair it with my IPhone 4 (iOS 7) via Bluetooth but it does not work via usb for playing streaming music from deezer or spotify. The touch2 stays stuck trying probably to look for MP3 in my phone although I don’t have any MP3. I want to stream from spotify!
    Any help appreciated

      Thanks for your post.
      We did check this with our tech team but Spotify of Deezer are not compatible to play music though your Toyota Touch 2 system. You can however play music stored on your iPhone via Bluetooth. Sorry this can’t be done but hope it helps clarify.

        Im sorry to kindly say that you are wrong, actually the Touch 2 IS COMPATIBLE with Deezer on iPhone because I use it everyday via Bluetooth.
        What is not working properly is when I plug my iPhone on the Usb to charge the battery, because the music via Bluetooth is deactivated and the touch 2 tries to find mp3 that I don’t have on my iPhone… And playing music on Deezer does not produce any sound. Same for YouTube.
        Conclusion: we can listen streamed music through Bluetooth but we cannot put our phone in charge on the USB port at the same time.
        To me from a user point of view it is simply a bug in the software, don’t tell me that it is normal…

          Thanks for your reply and we apologise for getting it wrong about Deezer.
          We did run this query again past our tech team. Every time the phone is connected via the USB this will always take priority over any other connection. Have you tried changing the source after connecting the USB?

          1. Yes I tried to go back to Bluetooth but the phone is not paired anymore for music on Bluetooth when connected to the USB.

            Have you tried un-pairing and then re-pairing your phone to the car? Sometimes this can fix quirks in the Bluetooth connection.

            If this doesn’t change anything, then we strongly recommend a visit to your local Toyota dealer, who will have the advantage of being able to see the problem in action and be able to diagnose further.

  42. Hello, i just want to warn people from buying this new system. I drove Avensis 2010 with old sat-nav and was far more happy. The new one is very VERY slow. After starting the engine up takes ages before you actually can use phone or sat-nav. And honestly, connection to internet is toy which will keep you amazed for no longer then few hours. Why i would be using google search on quite awkward touch screen, which is responsive so so but system is very VERY slow and you having on you your far FAR quicker smart phone? You have to stop anyway, but using phone can your passengers anytime.
    By the way, system freezes as well and often the person you are phoning with doesnt hear you properly every time.
    If engineers needed something to improve, so way i cant watch videos when car is not in motion? Like for example drivers Skoda Superb?
    Toyota is very VERY good car, but this system was really step back ; (

It’s always annoying when you have been using something for along time and then a new version comes along! We can assure you that the update is a step forward but sounds like the system is not performing properly and may have a problem. We suggest you take the vehicle to your Toyota dealer and get them to have a look. Please let us know how you get on.

      1. Mark is quite correct. The previous system is far superior. The only words I can use for the touch 2 are not suitable for print.
