Toyota Touch 2: How to use sat-nav

Toyota Touch 2 is our advanced multimedia system and offers a rear-view camera, touchscreen control of the entertainment system plus access to your hands-free phone.

Touch 2 with Go adds satellite-navigation, a host of online connected services and a vast array of fantastic Toyota applications. Touch 2 with Go Plus adds voice control.

In this post we’ll take a look at how to use the Touch 2 with Go sat-nav in your Toyota and some of its additional features. It’s also possible to send journey details to your in-car navigation from the MyToyota online customer portal – to find out more about this, read our introduction to MyToyota.

The following video explains the process and we’ve also prepared step-by-step instructions below.

Start by pressing the system ‘NAVIGATION’ button.

Then press ‘ROUTE OPTIONS’, where you can choose to show route alternatives on your maps. You’ll only have to do this once.

Now return to the Navigation main screen and press ‘ENTER DESTINATION’.

Enter the relevant address or postcode, then ask the system to calculate the route.

Your device will offer you three route alternatives – Fast, Short and Ecological.

You also have the option of avoiding motorways, tolls, tunnels and ferries.

You can also change map modes between the normal map and the traffic map.
Touch 2 with Go Plus enables 3D mapping.

The icon in the bottom corner of the screen will access further information and map options.

Press the ‘POIs’ button to see all the different points of interest on your route, including destinations for eating, shopping and entertainment.

Touch 2 with Go can also access destinations in your phonebook contacts as well as destinations sent from Google or TomTom maps if your phone is paired with your device.

  1. I have a 2012 Yaris just purchased (used) I seem unable to get my beep to work on traffic cameras it worked ok when on the the map but not working when I dont want the maps on.?

  3. I have just bought a 2017 Toyota Yaris I-Design with the Touch 2 SatNav (currently an owner of a 2014 Icon Plus with the previous SatNav model).

    Just reading all these comments of the horror of the sat nav volume adjusting when you are trying to adjust the music/radio/USB volume.

    One the Icon plus 2014, the Sat Nav has an independent volume setting, which stays the same no matter what I do to the music volume. It also stays constant even if I adjust the volume whilst the SatNav is giving driving instructions.

    I fear the Touch 2 model is much worse….not collected the 17 Reg yet…and I rely on the SatNav a lot for work – but now fear it will become a huge source of irritation instead.

    Is there a way to get the older NAV re-installed on the 17 reg? Even if it costs?

I have Toyota Yaris 2018 Yaris HYBRID, What I notices is while driving we play music a bit loud then suddenly the loud alert (like speed reduction zone, camera etc) comes from the system (which is very loud) what I want how to reduce the alert sound & keep the music at the same intensity. If we reduce the music sounds alert sound also get reduced. but we don’t want to do that. i would like to play loud music buy keep the alert sound low. If this is not possible to differentiate the two sound level(if they are linked together) then please tell me how to disable the alert as I drive locally and I know where & what the speed ranges and cameras are there and I don’t want these alert sounds to distract and disturb me.

    1. if you use the volume control when the voice is active you can turn the volume down. but it is a bit hit and miss and really the system is surprisingly rubbish in this area

  5. I have a 2018 Aygo with touch screen Nav. The maps are upside down. This makes it appear that we are reversing down the road. I have tried a factory re-set no good. Swapping the settings from 3D to North up etc -no difference. Any ideas how to get this so that the map follows the direction of travel?

        I did as you suggested and referred to my local dealer. The local dealer has now had the car back twice but is unable to fix the fault, despite being able to view it permanently. The local dealer upgraded the software with no effect now they want to replace the hardware but are awaiting permission from Toyota GB.

        I’m losing patience here guys. Several weeks, two dealer trips and multiple calls and emails to resolve a Nav fault that is reported by others on the web. This is not good.

        It is/has spoilt my daughters enjoyment of her first new car. Not what we expected from Toyota.

        Help please.

  7. I have an Aygo 2017 X Press with X Nav fitted.

    I have encountered problem with the sat nav which I hope you can help me with.

    Recently, I have been on two long journeys and set the nav for my destination. However, it just kept telling me to come of at every single exit (whether motorway or main road) which as you can imagine was extremely irritating! In the end I had to stop the nav.

    Has anyone else encountered this problem? or could this be a problem with the supplied SD card?

    Not sure if you can help, i have sent an email to the Multimedia team and will also pop in to my local dealer.

    I’ve purchased a Toyota C-HR Dynamic and today downloaded the latest map update file. during the installation via USB, the car unexpectedly turned off mid installation.

    The majority of the side touch buttons no longer function, only the power and volume and only the fm radio works which has to be first accessed by the steering wheel controls, the fm screen then appears and the fm touch buttons work.

    is there a way to restore to the previous firmware or something that can be done without needing to visit a dealer?

  13. Hi. I have a 2016 Toyota Yaris Hybrid. Please could you advise how to operate the sat nav as I do not appear to have any audio instructions. Also is it possible to isolate the sat nav audio from the radio?

      1. Did you ever find an answer to this? The fact that if you happen to turn the volume on the radio up or down when the SATNAV voice is speaking you accidentally adjust the SATNAV volume is a massive problem with the system. I accidentally turned the SATNAV volume to zero this way and obviously you cannot then turn it back up again until the SATNAV voice is actually speaking but you cannot hear it speaking because it’s turned to zero! I think you can probably go into the main menu and readjust it that way but since all this is being done while you are driving in an unfamiliar area, it’s really not practical. And then you adjust the volume on the radio again at just the wrong time and you have to go through the rigmarole all over again. Please let us know how to deal with this issue.

  14. Hi I have a 2014 Toyota Auris excel Hybrid with Toyota Touch and go navigation. Is there any way I can change the speed limits and distance to be shown in KM when driving in country where the limits are in KM and switch back to Miles when driving in UK. Thanks

      Thanks for getting in touch. It is possible to switch units. Firstly go on the “Set up” screen and select “general”, then “distance unit” and confirm which unit you’d prefer. Hope this helps.

      1. The miles or km is for the fuel unit not the sat nav. It keeps showing km on the sat nav after I have changed the unit to miles.

  15. I have a 2016 Yaris with Touch 2. On navigation I’m unable to unmute voice. I press the mute icon but it stays on mute.

      Thanks for getting in touch. The mute icon is the same icon to unmute it. If there is no change, consider looking into the General settings and checking the volume settings and increase to the volume of your choice which should help. Hope this helps.

      1. Hi I have a 2015 avensis with touch2 and it seems to always take me down the smallest roads possible. It doesn’t seem to matter which route option I choose. It also tries to take me down roads that are permanently closed and have been for many years.

      To adjust the volume of the navigation guidance voice, display the general settings screen and select “Volume settings”. Then select the item you want to change and adjust the volume to your desire. We hope this helps.

    2. audio settings is a bit cumbersome. when the satnav voice is active (ie talking to you) the normal volume controls on either the steering wheel or on the dashboard will allow you to change the satnav volume

Yeah, that is how it is supposed to work, but on Sunday while on the M25, the Sat Nav announcement was so loud I reached over to the volume knob to turn it down and the whole voice announcement system for the Sat Nav turned off and I had no verbal announcements for the next 97 miles until I got home! Why on earth is this seemingly linked to the radio volume? Far better when the system muted the radio to make an announcement! The current method is that if the radio is loud enough to hear the Sat Nav is deafening, and if the Sat Nav is quieter, one cannot hear the radio!

          Thanks for getting in touch. Yes, this function is available. Display the DAB control screen, select settings, then select traffic announcement. When traffic information is received, a pop-up window will appear – select continue to hear it. For further information, we recommend downloading the owner’s manual from the My Toyota portal.   18. Hi. How do I stop it displaying on screen whenever I alter the temperature or anything on climate control. Very frustrating while navigating and completely pointless. Temp and all other related info are clearly displayed on the unit itself.

  19. With 2016 Auri Business edition 1600 diesel, once the navigation system is set how do you turn it of if no longer required for the rest of the journey.

      Thanks for getting in touch. When using the Navigation system, there should be a small arrow on the right hand side of the screen. Click this small arrow and there will be a STOP button. This will stop the guidance. Hope this helps.

    2. This is my 4th Yaris and the 3rd with satnav. This time I have a hybrid Yaris and have never once had a detour or diversion given to me on the satnav to the point where I have sat on the motorway for 3hours. Why is have I paid a considerable amount of money for what is just a map from a to b no detours, delays or accidents! So unhappy! I’ve now reverted back to using my maps on my phone!

  20. I have a 2012 yaris hybrid. The gps is constantly on. How do I turn it off? I don’t necessarily want to be subjected to gps signals when not in use, when I’m travelling with my wife and children on long journeys. I don’t understand why a basic on/off toggle isn’t available in the menu systems. Even smartphones allow you to turn off the gps.

      Thanks for getting in touch. There isn’t a way to turn the GPS receiver off unfortunately. The GPS signals are being transmitted all of the time regardless of a GPS device being present, the GPS device can simply receive and analyse the signals and potentially transmit back. Hope this helps!

  21. I am so disappointed in my Yaris which I purchased 2015. I too couldn’t switch off the sat nav and it continues. I also find instructions given ae far too late and miss road turn off’s etc. Are all the sat navs this dysfunctiona. II find my front drivers door is not closing properly I also find that there is a lot of water and dirt off roads on internal door trims are the seal not fit for purpose. Ive bought Toyota cars for over 20 years, but fear unless there are marked improvements, The toyota I have now will be my last, will there be improvements.

  22. Hello, the volume on my ago has decreased a lot on both Bluetooth and radio. I have to put it to at least 30 to hear it! I have also increased my phone’s volume to the max. Any suggestions to fix this?

  23. I have a 2012 RAV4. Over the past year the sat nav has been gradually taking longer to load, e.g. from about 20seconds to 10 minutes. Now it won’t load at all, just displays the disc with a message its loading. The tech team at my dealership have looked at it and don’t know whats wrong with it. I really need to get this sorted, does anyone have any idea what it could be.

  24. I am still struggling to be able to hear traffic news when the radio volume is zero. The traffic bulletin can be heard faintly, but I can find no way to ensure that it is any louder, without turning up the volume every time.

          Thank you for your reply. We have spoken with our technical department and we would advise first go into the radio settings menu, turn off traffic announcements and alternative frequency, then turn both back on so they have a tick beside them. When the traffic announcement comes through the speakers, the volume level will be saved in the memory once it ends. This means that when the next traffic announcement is heard, you will need to set the volume as it is playing, via the radio display controls. The volume should then be saved when the next announcement is received. Hope this helps and if you have any other questions please let us know

          1. I have tried this three times. It has no effect. I increase the volume of the traffic announcement to the level I want. Next time there is a traffic announcement, it reverts to the much lower level.

          5. I have followed your suggestion of taking the car to my local dealer. They say that the volume of traffic announcements is dependent on the radio volume and that there is no way of ensuring that the traffic announcements are properly audible when the radio is (for practical purposes) off (i.e. the volume is at zero). This is most unsatisfactory.

    My Touch 2 system on my 2015 Yaris used to display a lot more colour than it does now. For example, if I drove near the sea it would be blue on the sat nav, and if I drove passed a gol course this was displayed as green on the navigation unit. Everything now seems grey! I believe I may have changed a setting, but neither myself or the local dealership can fathom it out. Any help would be appreciated.

We’ve spoken with our technical team and they have advised us that it is not possible to change the saturation of the display, so you may have accidentally changed the brightness/contrast setting. We suggest having a play with these settings. If this doesn’t help, we suggest contacting your dealer, so they can perform a reset of the system. We hope this helps.

  26. Hi, I have just purchased an Auris with a Touch 2 and go system but can not get any traffic information, either through the tmc system on the radio or broadcasts. I have gone through the manual but nothing seems to work, am I missing something obvious?

    I also have not been able to set up an Internet connection for the real time traffic. The phone (iPhone 6s) connects for calls but not the Internet.


  27. Hello. I have a RAV4 purchased in 2013. I am not able to get traffic announcements when on DAB. They do come in when on FM. I have checked that all the relevant settings are selected and so has my dealership. However, I have not had one announcement whilst on DAB. Thank you, Sarah

  28. I have a question…I recently purchased a 2015 Rav4 and with the navigation system I can’t hear the instructions because the radio is still playing, Is there a way to have the radio mute when the navigation is going?

        1. You can chage the volume of the sat nav and music independently. Adjust the media volume, when satnav speaks turn the knob again and immediately a different volume for satnav appears

  29. I have an issue. Whilst navigating and taking a phone call, the volume of the navigation instructions goes very high. This causes a nuisance to myself and the other party on the telephone. I have tried to remedy this, but without luck

    2. I’ve the same problem and Toyota does not seem to have a solution for it.

      IMHO the cause of this problem is the fact that in the menu volume settings you can only set a relative volume level. This causes that when e.g. the Nav-Sat volume is +2 and you are increasing the volume level of another audio source (Radio or Phone) the Nav-Sat volume will be added +2 to that other audio source volume and will be much too loud!

      In short when you change the audio volume of your radio audio source, the nav-sat volume will change too. It then will be too loud or when you lower down the volume of the radio, too weak.

      The volume settings of the T&G2 should always be an absolute value so all volumes will act independently!

      I contacted the Dutch Toyota dealer but unfortunately Toyota does not have a solution 🙁

    I would appreciate some help re traffic announcements please. I seem to get none whatsover when listening to DAB radio in any setting. When listening to a CD or FM radio, even with the “no traffic announcements” box ticked I cannot avoid them! Thanks.

        1. Hi Angela, this may be because the nav map is facing the same way as your car which can sometimes be useful on the move. To change this, you can press the compass icon again to set it to stay north-facing. I hope this helps you, we don’t doubt your knowledge of Cambridge!

  34. Can I increase the time between the guidance and the actual turn of my device fitted to my new auris? The guidance seems to come when we are almost at the junction turn etc

  35. Collected my new Auris two weeks ago but am having trouble setting a destination on the Sat Nav.
    If I put a post code in and press OK, the screen changes and I only have the post code showing with no way of moving on.
    Also how can I delete an item I have installed wrong ???

      Basically you need to un-tick the auto zoom feature in the map settings of your navigation system. If need help tracing this let us know which model you have and we can advise further.

We have checked a Touch 2 manual and while is does make reference to the function, further information about the feature would be useful. We will pass this back to our product team. You may already be aware that the scale can be adjusted by turning the audio tune button on your system. This is a quick way to adjust to your preferred setting. Let us know how you get on and if you have any other questions.

    2. I have just taken delivery of a new Yaris and I have been appalled by the lack of information supplied with the car over the Satnav system. Just a few pages in the back of a much thinned handbook.

      In particular I am baffled by the traffic bar down the left of the screen. I am running on TMC information and occasionally a pink or sometimes red bar appears. I guess this is something to do with amount of delay? distance of delay? severity of delay? Figures given against it indicated 8m. Is this 8 minutes delay, eight mile of traffic or eight miles away?

      Is there a decent description of what this is all about given anywhere. Have look at all the videos purporting to give information on the satnav system and none of them even mention it as far as I can see.

        Sorry to hear about your concerns with the satnav and taking the point you have raised, the bar on the left hand side is predicting any delays on your route and the approximate amount of time to get through with colour indicating the severity. Sorry that this is not clear in the handbook and we have passed this back to our product team. We will put forward the suggestion regarding a possible Blog post about this aspect of the satnav operation but in the meantime we are happy to help with any query you have.   39. Hi, When I use the web portal to set up a trip, give the trip a name and then search for a post code, why does the post code appear on the car sat nav rather than the name when I download? Rather frustrating as it means I have to remember the post code destination rather than the name of the trip. Using 4.3.0L.

      We have run this query past our technical team, they have advised that the name is allocated for a reference on the portal and this information isn’t transferred to the vehicle. However the entry can be edited and a name applied after it has been saved in the “Stored” list. Hope this helps clarify and let us know if you have any other questions.

    How do switch off the voice guidance on the sat nav. I’ve reduced the volume down to “0” in the general settings but it doesn’t make any difference.

      1. Hi David Ive tried it again and managed to turn the voice guidance off by using the audio volume knob on the unit as the guidance was talking. It did not affect the radio volume. I’ve re checked the guidance volume settings on the display and that was also at zero. It seems to have done the trick.

  42. Can someone help? My husband left the light inside the car on for a week whilst our car was parked at the airport which completely drained the battery and everything… Now the car works fine; however. Since then I have been unable to turn off the navigation system. I click ‘off’ or try and turn on the audio, the screen with the sat nav just comes back on. Even when I’ve turned off the engine. I tried looking in the user guide but there’s nothing of the sort.. Any ideas?

    Is there a way to connect touch 2 and go plus automaticaly to this wifi network (all the time it asks to choose the network and to put password)?
    And is there a way to make this wifi network stored, not to put in the password all the time?

      We have checked this with our technical team. They have advised that if you are connecting your phone to your car using the hotspot then the head unit in the car should retain your password. If however you have purchased the wifi hotspot accessory item then you would need to enter your password each time. We hope this helps clarify but let us know if you have any other questions.

  47. I know it must be me not fully understanding the sat nav system, it the first time I have had one. I have recently bought a Yaris that is one year old how do I turn on the audio direction system as I can see the map, but unable to hear any directions.

    1. Hi Steve, thank you for taking the time to contact us. No problem at all, try the following steps: set a route, there should be an icon to repeat the guidance instruction, (looks like an ear, it’s on the right hand side of the screen half way up). Press that button and as soon as you do adjust the volume using the volume dial or steering wheel controls. Hope this helps.

      On a system with Touch 2 you need to press the button on the map screen which is two small cogs. You will then see a screen which prompts you to “stop navigation”.

      1. I am just learning the sat navy with my feb14 RAV4. I don’t know how it happened but I ended up with the volume knob (top right) affecting the satnav volume. a bit more fiddling and it controls the music volume. So, it seems it is a volume that can control either

          Thank you for your post. The volume knob controls the sat nav volume once the sat nav is active/providing directions. Once the sat nav voice has stopped providing directions the volume knob will control the media volume. Hope this helps a little further and if you have any other questions please let us know.

            Thank you for your reply and we are glad we could be of assistance. If the sat nav volume is at zero and instructions cannot be heard. This should be able to be altered when the sat nav first starts up as instructions are provided once go is selected.         2. The volume control only alters the satnav level when the rather brusque woman is talking. You have to move like lightning to do it and you always end up with radio and satnav out of balance with one or the other smashing your eardrums. It is the daftest system imaginable.

      The ‘Auto Zoom’ feature allows for a higher viewing angle when the car is travelling along a road without any junctions, the camera will then automatically zoom in closer to the road when a junction with navigation instructions approaches. This feature is designed to make it easier to follow the guided route.
      ‘Near’, ‘normal’ and ‘far’ refer to the viewing angles displayed. ‘Far’ displays a higher viewing angle making more roads ahead visible, ‘near’ will only show a limited view ahead, while ‘normal’ sits between the two.
