What Car Toyota Verso reader test team

What Car? readers review new Verso

The new Toyota Verso has received a great reception from reviewers since its launch in January – but now real car buyers have given their verdict on the car.

The What Car? Reader Test Team were recently given the chance to take an in-depth look at our new seven-seat compact MPV – watch the video below to see what they made of it.

Here’s a summary of what the test team said…

Sarah Teasdale, who drives a Vauxhall Zafira: “I think it’s sexier. It’s probably smaller than the one I drive at the moment but it doesn’t feel like that because it’s so compact. It’s definitely a step up from what I drive at the moment. I would definitely look to buy one of these.”

Matt Sinfield, who drives a previous-generation Verso: “I like the change on the front. I have never been that keen on the look of mine, but I think the way they have changed the front with the LED lights and the sharper nose looks so much better.

“The interior has definitely improved. It will be high up on my list to replace my current one.”

Lindsey South, who also drives a previous-generation Verso: “The interior is much slicker. Everything just seems much more expensive and of better quality.

“I love my Verso because it works – I’ve got three small children and also living in London the size is great for a seven-seater. This car looks much cooler.”

Margaret McDonnell: “The first thing that struck me was the high driving position – I thought the steering wheel and the visibility are really good, so that makes it safer.

“I like the flexibility of the seat layout… space is a great feature on this car and I love the look of it as well.”

  1. I suspect Toyota have sieved the responses above to produce a bland approval message.
I bought my daughter a verso several years ago, Its done wonderfully, performed well beyond any expectations, economical, trouble free. etc
I want to buy one now, but I can’t find information that reviewers keep quoting. I liked the old bhp of the verso diesel. I find multiple reviewers saying you can get a 2.2 diesel 175bhp engine in the new model (2013), but can find no examples or information.

    1. Hi David
      Thanks for your post.
We have withdrawn the the 2.2 diesel engine (basically this was down to low sales volume) and currently have the 2.0-litre D-4D diesel producing 122 bhp. From early next year however we will be introducing a new 1.6-litre diesel engine from BMW (we have an agreement with them to supply us diesel engines) and this model will go on sale in the new year. This engine will produce 111 bhp.
Hope this helps for now and let us know if you need any more information or point you in the direction of a test drive.
